What happened to stop their production? No wonder I'm starting to see other brands of 5-spiced pork cubes on the shelves of the Asian grocery shops here. I was wondering what happened...

uhh.. you notice people in Singapore dropping dead during exercise? i don't see any of them are malay (therefore eliminating pork from their diet)
most are that age where eating that roadkill from ma ling after PRC opened up can affect them (around the formative years)

I'm happy with my Maling Luncheon Meat that I haven't even bothered to try the ang moh brands at all!
I did notice, though, that over the years, the luncheon meat has gotten 'softer'. Not a good sign at all - it shows that they're using more chemicals to 'tenderize' the meat. I really don't like this, and therefore, let's see... I've only eaten Luncheon Meat once in the past eight months! I bought the tiniest can possible and fried it without any extra oil, to put between bread, slapped on a ton of chilli sauce, and ate it over two days, adding fried omelette to it on the last day.

this doesn't mean that they all had eaten ma ling..
I like Ma Ling luncheon meat very much! I bought a can a few months ago; don't know if I should be throwing it out now, though cos I think I bought it in Nov (just before the scare)

yeah.. but looking at the vast number of people here, the loss of ma ling almost equates to the end of the world, i wonder just how much people eat that stuff
personally, i don't like spam
Thing is, Maling has a much higher fat content compared to SPAM. It is this higher fat content that makes Maling more 'pang' compared to Spam. Also Maling is not as salty. For Spam, even the less salt version is much saltier than Maling!!
you THINK it's fat...
i think i read somewhere before the PRC nonsense went out of control that they were using low-grade industrial grease or something like that in their food preparation

Wah liao....bee hoon is not bee hoon without the canned braised trotters!!!
So, Bear... which is the lesser of 2 evils... broccoli or ma ling luncheon meat?
