Can one. Your dog would be happy to have a companion.

Well, when my cats started scratching my furniture, I quickly carried them over to one of two scratching posts I had around the house, and then held their front paws to scratch-scratch on the posts. They got the idea very fast and stopped scratching the furniture henceforth. I think they get more satisfaction scratching on the posts than on furniture anyways.

Hmm... out of the cats that I have had, ALL of them preferred the scratching posts to furniture. And out of those who 'attack' furniture, most of them loved to sink their claws into upholstery for some strange reason. They never ripped anything, but they did leave slight fraying here and there. It was on the odd occasion though, and only because they couldn't retract their claws properly cause it got caught in the fabric!
I think only one odd cat loved to nibble on the wooden legs of the couch. But that cat was a bit weird and loony anyways. It probably had some sorta paranoid disorder. It did really strange things that no other cat in my household did!
Overall, there was scant damage to the furniture. You'd be hard-pressed to find any visible signs of damage.
I think if you have a good mama, you'll end up having well-behaved cats!
Omg I want a cat so much.. but i can't keep it..
