mares is good for the recreational diver, effortless breathing, cool design etc, but it's not for the more technical diver ... in some models the airflow is not even adjustable ... if you have more money to spend, go for one of the better scubapro models ....
U make me regret my choice in getting my Mares.
But that was 2 yrs ago.
Now which computer should i get?

Man, sure its expensive.
i think it was more ex the previous time?
oh ya, 1 more thing i would like to ask....
how often you guys dive? and how's the servicing of your regs?

how often ? .. hell, it used to be every other weekend for me ... heh .... but I just got back from overseas, and now it's time to hit the ocean again .... I service my regs at least once a year, I'd bring it to divemasters pratama, the distributor for apeks, for servicing, if you don't mind the hassle you can buy the service kit and DIY .... sometimes it's a lot more frequent, there's this notorious dive resort at a popular malaysian east coast spot that almost NEVER clean their compressor generators, and the first stage filter often gets clogged solid black from a single tank... frequent divers should know which place I'm talking about .... the season has just started, if you guys are interested I'm cobbling together groups for perhantian, redang, aur and maybe lombok in the coming months .... give me a PM ... ;)
thanks a lot on sharing.
perhaps when i get my personal gear ready!

I am now using the Scubapro Xtender.

I use Mares Abyss.
And like Fatum, I'm using Halcyon Backplate system.
Anyway, why steer awway from Suuntos?
I had a very bad experience with the suunto mosquito .... my oceanic dive com was a replacement for that ......
and woah ! ... abyss ! ... now that's one classy reg ...
heavy too....hehe
edit: thinking of getting the v42.

over-balanced reg.
And its heavy too.. but i like it still.. haha
And just as i was looking at the D6/9.....
Guess a uwatec would do...
the earlier generations of uwatec dive coms had notoriously unfriendly user interfaces ... I haven't been checking out their stuff, not sure if things have improved ....
but I usually leave my dive com in guage mode anyways .... so it doesn't really matter ...

how does it feel to have an over balanced reg?
Air gushes into your mouth, like u press the purge all the time..
But it only happens if u dun keep the pressure in the mouth.. not sure if u get what i mean.
hehe
but its good, coz its damn easy to breathe. Little effort needed..

won't air run out faster this way?
nah, u can control it..
i can come out from a 40 mins dive with almost 100 bars left, but max depth was only abt 20m?

Aur, Tioman.
Furthest was Philippines, Malapascua Island to see threshers but didn't get to see any..
Woke up consecutively 2 days at 5am, brave the cold waters of dawn at Monad Shoal to see crap.
But another group who were with us saw.
Damn, i just dun have the fortune and luck.
I think i wanna go Similan Islands this yr.
I'm planning to go climbing in lombok early may, followed by a diving trip ....
calling for takers for the diving part ...
speaking of similans, I've been hearing lots of buzz about the mergui archipelago further up into burma ... this may be the new hotspot on the west coast ...
Burma banks?
A friend of mine asked if i wanted to go, LOB.
BUT, my colleague has to go for reservist during the week and i have to cover for him. :(
