Starting a new topic because I have a feeling I'll keep coming back to read this in the next few days!
I first learnt about the Cachacas (Ka-Sha-Sah) and Caipirinha (Kie-Pur-Reen-Yah) when watching Anthony Bourdain explore Sao Paolo, Brazil in No Reservations.
Cachacas (Ka-Sha-Sah) and Caipirinha (Kie-Pur-Reen-Yah)
Wondering, how many of you have tried them?
smlj!
i thot i know sangria very clever oredi
then come out some mosquito lah, then now these...
Think I shall go and shop for a Muddler too! Instead of Cachacas, I think I can easily subsitute Choya or the Korean Pomegranate Wine!
Or, for a non-alcoholic version, use Soda Water or Fizzy Apple Non-alchoholic beverage!

I only heard of these today nia!
I think it should be relatively easy to find them here somehow. There are Brazilians living here. I just need to find out where they hang out and voila!

i'm OOP but lately i'm hooked on these
Looks interesting! I go check it out and see if they have those here!
I'm interested in trying the pre-mixes too. Something milder, but which might help in making me sleep...
KB just mentioned that Caipirinha is "very refreshing".
Makes me wanna try it even more!
I can't decide if I like it better than Gin & Tonic; need I say more?
Anyway, most bars and pubs here substitute rum for the cachaca since they don't have that readily available.
Don't think I'd like rum... it's quite heavy stuff.

You hardly taste it, as the flavour of the lime and the sugar is also very strong.

Really? If so, I think I might just like it!
I strongly dislike alcoholic drinks that are too alcoholic. I don't like stuff that reeks of lighter fluid, stuff like the Manhattan, which stinks to high heavens and smells like airplane diesel!
i've always thought they were just different types of rum..
and i've gotten wrecked by rum too many times in my life

I myself have acquired a distaste for red wine in general. The only wines that I help myself to now are ice wines and Sauternes.

Ice wines... are they 'light'?
I like fruity tastes, or interesting yet light tastes like OSH.
And I don't like getting tipsy nor wasted on alcohol.

Those two wines are dessert wines, which means that they're sweet and that's why I like them.
I like a few sips of Scotch now, whereas in the past I disliked all distilled drinks. I still don't like the taste of vodka - it's like nail varnish.

Eeee! I don't think I'd like to drink nail varnish!
I'm glad we're on the same page when it comes to drinks. At least, we're rational in our choices and we don't go for hard liquour just to bow down to peer pressure and to look 'kewl'.

I guess so, I prefer enjoying my drinks (taking them slowly as long as they stay fresh) to using them to get drunk.

OK, we can be friends! And when I return to Singapore for a visit, drinking buddies!
Caipirinha is what's in the glass on the left.
Thanks for the photo! I saw how it looked like in "No Reservations".
I went to one of the local alcohol shops and asked for Cachacas but they didn't stock it. They did know of a larger shop down the road that sold it though! I'm heading to town tomorrow, may try my luck there first!
looks suspiciously like a mojito...
probably the same thing with different local names for local booze
Mojito requires rum, is carbonated and contains mint.
yeah... some smashed mint leaves and lime.. and wonderful wonderful rum
Methinks I shall head to the large liquor shop along Bridge Road to see if I can get my Cachacas tonight!
