Ever got a slight itching in your throat when you eat durians ? ..... a slight buring, tickling sensation at the back of your mouth ? ....
That, according to an aunty who loves her durians so much she mounts early morning expeditions to bukit timah nature reserve for "organic" durians during the season, is caused by heavy pesticide use at the thai and malaysian durian plantations .....
she says that they are now using so much agricultural pesticide around the plantations the squirrel population there has mostly disappeared ...
apparently, one way to tell how much pesticide was sprayed on the durians, is to look at the number of flies buzzing around the durian stall .... durians have a very strong, pungent smell as we all know, and flies should rightly be attracted to them .... if you don't see any flies buzzing around the durians, forget it, it's not worth the health risk .... if even flies wouldn't want to have anything to do with the durians, you better not too ....
The above test seems to hold true as well ... we got a crop of bukit timah "organic" durians recently, together with a few store bought ones .... left a shell outside side by side in the garden .... flies and bugs came only to the "organic" one .....
and you don't get that slight, itching, burning sensation at the back of your throat when you slurp into a soft, yellow organic "golden pillow" at all .....
watch out for the flies next time you buy durians ...
uhh.. if they are using so much pesticides, what the hell was pollenating the bloody flowers?
-recalls our last sinful durian fest-
-coughs noisily-

strange.. i've never actually kena anything from durians...
but i usually don't eat if i have a sore throat.. which is why on friday i abstained...
Thankfully, I don't eat durians.
I don't get that tingling, burning sensation when I eat "organic" durians ..... and I don't get that much of a thirst with "organic" durians .....
not true for the store bought ones .....
but there are a few stores selling "organic" durians too ... just look for the flies ...

Pls la Fatum. Everything you eat is filled with pesticides these days.
And the healthier pork is strangely fatty pork. LOL
You know why? That is coz the super lean pigs are likely 100% fed with Paylean which is really a nicer name for steriods to convert fats into meat. Yes it is FDA approved and approved in SG too for paylean fed pigs.
So you think you're eating 'healthy' lean meat. To achieve that much lean meat, chemicals have to be used.
Let's not even go to hormone injected chickens

yah, but it's scary you know .... try the experiment yourself ..... place a shell out in the open some where .....
the flies won't even come to it .... that's how bad it is ....
maybe I'll give up pork too if the flies won't go around the pork stalls at the wet market anymore .... >.<
flies don't buzz around beer
wah ... so zhun .....
in the strict times there's an article on free durian hunting ...

i know one way for sure select good durians. Last time i watch my dad do. The seller intro say the durians very good. So my dad just say 'O.K..' and decided he wanted one of the 'good' durians recommended by the seller. Instantly tell him open. Then when open LPPL. So my dad did not buy and tell him open another one..haha.. open until got good one then buy.
haha... seller LPPL.. cause he say good. open up no so good. So not our fault. open em all!!!
