I think anyone could tell you that chickens generally don't make good household pets...
Parakeets, on the other hand, are wonderful companions. They're low to no-maintenance, semi-intelligent, faithful to the owner, and relatively easy to clean up after.
Actually, the one that died recently was my second parakeet; the first one flew away several years ago when I made the supremely stupid mistake of leaving the cage, kitchen and garage doors all open one muggy summer afternoon. He heard the other birds outside chirping and bolted out of the house via the garage. Stupid bird...

I'm low maintenance, zero infact .... I'm not only self-foraging, I forage well for and with others as well .....
I don't require human intervention at bath time ... infact, i'll give myself at least one bath daily ....
I maintain a high level of personal hygiene, knows lots of tricks to keep people happy, can tolerate long periods of indifference and silence, and requires only minimal amount of care .....
I am also chubby and cuddly .... and though I lick well, I do so only when and where directed ....
Would you take kindly to being neutered?

I dunno man .... I went to my friend's house in toon town the other time ..... she and her brother had two tame parakeets flying around the house .... one lighted on my hand ....
and shat on it ....

Ah, the "beauty" of parakeet poop is that, aside from being small and odorless, it hardens to the small pellet after a while and can easily be vacuumed or picked up and disposed of.
If you had left the poop on your hand, it would have hardened after a few minutes and you could have just flicked it off.
