it's a bit touching .... and confusing, cos I don't know what to make of it ....
Rich, sick man marries viet MOB ...
Chap's suffering from thalassaemia, which means that he most probably would have a shorter than average lifespan ....
he also happens to be pretty well off ........
I feel for the dude .... I hope he has a happy marriage .... and that ... (sorry for being cynical) it was true love for the couple ....
Bro, is it me or my laptop...cos i cant see the link leh

nah, try again ...
Ok done. Same as urs, I wish them happiness. Somtimes god is unfair....u r rich but u r just not blessed with gd health. And I think what we can learn from this story is....his determination. Determination is one of the key to its success. :)
I hope they'll be happy too. The part where he spent 14 years chasing a Singaporean woman is like >.<"
And Fatum....he's even worse than you. He wants 8 kids!!
hur hur hur
this is just .... sad ......
"poor" people, have poor options ..... I suppose both parties have found their best options in their respective circumstances .... maybe, they can derive their own happiness from each other ...
that's why I say, sometimes .... such MOB marriages .... are, to paraphrase paul theroux ... a form of mutual salvation .......

I suppose its a better option than spending years chasing a local women lol. The chances of such a marriage working out in the long run is probably just as good as marrying someone you've dated for years, looking at our divorce numbers.
i think he wants 8 kids due to his genetic disease
more kids means higher chance of someone surviving if the disease is pass on to his descendent

wow ! .... for real ! .....
he's one of my favourite writers ! ....
you know he taught at NUS before ... fancy that ! ...
Well usually there are 2 reasons for wanting to marry a dying man
1. It's true love
2. It's the money
I hope it's 1.
But I'm really really cynical about this. Plus, she is still young. Even if he lives for another 10 years she is just in her early 30s and can re-marry again

Yeah! I only knew about his saint Jack.
What happened was I went to my regular tailor in Bangkok. Was talking to the boss then one ang moh came in. I dun even know who the hell he is and he started talking to the boss about amending his suit blah blah.... then while waiting, he started talking to me about what I did in BKK etc...then he asked me where I am from, I said Singapore. And thats where it all started and he started talking about his time in NUS, living in Singapore the pre-1965 period and why he wrote Saint Jack and how it got banned and later allowed to sell in Singapore again and abit of his married life and now he is staying in Hawaii if I did not remember wrongly. We even talked about Lee Kuan Yew haha! Cos the boss of the tailor shop belongs to the same dialect clan with Lee and he has a clan book that talks about the famous people in their clan so he took it out and show us and we started talking about the old times..of cos i did not know too much what happen before the 1970s haha
Was a very nice person to talk to. And if I knew he was such a famous writer who wrote so many books, I would have ask him for his autograph haha...i tot he was just an academic who wrote the occassional book
