actually its quite scary. the elderly are like this social underclass in Singapore. you go fast food restaurant, elderly folks serving you. go food court, elderly folks clearing tables, go toilet, eldetrly toilet cleaners. walk around town, elderly beggars, tissue paper sellings, and drink can collectors etc
that's why I never return my trays at the fast food resturants .....
I figured that if everyone starts returning their trays .... they'd be out of a job ....
and considering where you work, I think it's a crying shame how the aunties at your side are being treated ....
I used to think those tissue aunties and beggers at orchard road as something shameful for our society ... it's not exactly the imagine I'd like foreign visitors to see ....
but now, I think if there are enough of those around, maybe the powers-that-be would wake up and do something ...
you sure?
the only time the leave their ivory towers is when they are chauffered to their country clubs...

They downsize the food not so much till we aren't full after eating but you do see the difference in the quantity.

"There are no beggars in Singapore" - Lee Kuan Yew
Yeah, I was scolded upside down by one of the elderly cleaning aunties at a McDonalds long time ago. She told me that management was hoping to cut down manpower and that I'd put her out of a job.
Hahaha you remind me of 1 old forumite here always hungry de =X

Haaaar?!! So nowadays, when eating in the fast food restaurants in Singapore, it's best to just leave your trays at the table after you've finished?! This is craziness! I'd leave it all there if it means the aunties get to keep their jobs!

btw, you know the boss of Mcdonalds in Singapore ? .... he has one of the biggest, and most beautiful mega-yatches in the asia pacific region today .... twin hulls, the thing's like a blardy battleship ! ....
think about that when you bite into your MickeyD's and look at the elderly aunty wiping the tables at the next table ... so leave your tray on the table ! ...

the aunties will thank you for it. trust me.
If I may ask everyone here..... in view of rising food prices, what would be the better thing for hawkers to do:
1. Increase prices, maintain quality and quantity
2. Maintain prices, reduce quality and quantity
Personally, I'd choose (1). The way I see it, the poor roti prata uncle or the mee siam auntie is just trying to make ends meet. If they don't raise their prices, their own earnings go down. I don't mind paying a little more so long as QC is maintained.
Just like my favourite Indonesian Panggang stall at my faculty canteen.... they've raised prices by 20 cents, but hey, QC is still maintained, and I won't stop patronizing that stall.
Unfortunately, I've come across hawkers who increase prices and reduce QC at the same time.
Oh yah.... McCrap is particularly guilty of this. Higher prices and smaller portions.
