Outside of cosmopolitan London, English people can be insular snoots. Society and relations between communities and classes have regressed to the point where people don't feel safe from criminals or the PC/HS brigade. And let's not get started on the standards of morals and education. The sensationalist media hasn't helped either. All these things are being felt elsewhere too but not as sorely as it appears.

I remember this CBC feature I caught in pluto ....
it's about community relations between immigrants from the middle east and south asia and the white locals in a working class neighbourhood ....
on one hand ... you have those immigrants openly worshipping osama and riling against the west, young kids talking openly of being suicide bombers and adults ranting about all the injustices the west is doing to the muslim world (while living in the west, mind you), and talking about taking over britain by birth and migration rates in a hundred years ...
then the scene cuts to an old english lady who crys while she complains about being spat on and stoned while she's walking down her old street by the new comers ....
next, they went to a yokels neighbourhood, where young redneck louts, kids really, were drinking lager and smoking with their older relatives, all unemployed of course, in the afternoon. talking calmly about the coming race war and how they'll kill too to defend their values their culture, and their way of life (religion was conspiciously absent from the list)... adherents of the british first party of course... they all looked like little storm troopers, only less in shape and drinking and smoking ... yoob culture at it's finest ....
sensationalist reporting perhaps ? ... but it leaves you no doubt that they are up the shit creek without a paddle ....
