This is going to be my insect porn thread from now.
This saturday's captures:
Crab Spider
Ordinarily I do not like pictures taken with electronic flash but it was the only way I could capture this tiny little bastard. It turned out ok. Crab spiders are poisonous as heck btw, so do not touch them if you see them!
Carpenter Bee
This huge guy is a carpenter bee(I think). I initially thought it was a bumble bee. In any case it was pretty scary getting close enough for this shot, given how noisy and fast it was moving.
Not sure what this is yet
I still can't decide if I like this picture.
wow...they are beautiful. you risk your neck getting so close to shot them? macro?

Yeah. I remember wishing my camera had a longer lens
Dragonfly
I wished the weather wasn't so sunny. A real pain trying to avoid casting a huge shadow over the subject.
all the timing seems perfect. where did you go to find so many critters among the beautiful flowers

Any garden will have them. These were taken in the botanic gardens but I've found plenty of interesting stuff just downstairs my house too.
i like the crab spider! never seen it before!

given that its likely very poisonous, that's a good thing

Yeah. They're quite well hidden.

Very nice.....mine are mediocre.
There was a time I tried to take a picture of a colony of weaver ants and the buggers jumped onto the camera.
After that I always have apprehensions taking pictures of ants.

nonsense lah. these spiders prefer eating insects and they're really more scared of us than the other way round.

you should have seen the first time a bee landed on my forearm when I was trying to take pics of them long time ago. I squealed like a little girl.
so got step/ lie down on a bed of red army ants or been stung by something poisonous?

You should try having ants trying to bite the lens with more jumping off their nests to get at you.
Failing which, they started running to my feet.
I stopped taking pictures of weaver ants after that first try.
Now I only dare to take pictures of ants that are relatively blind.
But weaver ants are cute in their way, rather bold and curious, with remarkably good eye-sight.
