Those ear plugs for live firing available from the army shops are good enough. Which seats did you get?

I would rather WRC comes rather than F1.....F1 strikes me as boring.
Of course its point of view.

get etymotic ER-25 earplugs from jaben network at the Adelphi, 4th floor. highly effective.
if you want the kind of big headphone type ear protectors used for shooting, go to Sheares

no they're crap compared to the good ones like the etymotics. the etymotics will set you back by $25 a pair though

I'll be walking around for the practice sessions...maybe I'll plonk myself in front of a screen for the race itself.

They're sufficient for the job though. No need to spend so much on something that will probably be used only once a year.

Both of them don't need that much protection...that part of the track is quite slow, with just a short burst of acceleration. The people sitting along the straights are the ones who will suffer.

when i went to the melbourne one in 1998, i was with two cop friends.. one was drunk and disappeared into a hospitality tent and was drinking the entire race, the other was wearing one of these
I use a pair of generic earplugs when I'm shooting at the range. They're the ones shaped like miniature cylindrical barbs and made of synthetic rubber. They're washable, reusable, and are rated to 29 dB of protection, which is sufficient to comfortably muffle the muzzleblast from a S&W 500 Magnum revolver a few feet away.
I got them at a local hardware store years ago for just a couple of bucks. You don't have to pay a lot for effective hearing protection.
