According to the article, the wasps don't normally sting humans.
But, using a badminton racquet as a makeshift fly/wasp swatter? Hmmm... not a bad idea, especially with some of the large insects we encounter over here. Might have to give that a try!

People don't normally place their leg on insects either.

there are things like that which are electrified..
imagine, a badminton racquet with electrified wires as strings.. they fry the bugs

There's such a device....no?
cool as heck

I don't think a contraption like that would be very practical. You'd need to lug around a huge and heavy battery to provide the necessary current for the portable racquet/swatter to effectively zap the insects.
On the other hand, if you had a long-enough extension cord...
I used such devices whenever I visit my relatives in Malaysia.....the mosquitoes there are small and fast. The only inkling you have of their presence is when you get bitten, or you activate that racquet and you hear a sizzle and see a spark.
dude.. 2 D batteries..
into 1500 volts

Workable...

I recall only 2 AA batts needed for this device.
that one the small one...
the one with 2 D batteries is bigass one
but seriously, 2 AA, 2 D, same voltage

Small one can also kill.

Continuous or on-demand/intermittent? if the former, I hope the batteries are rechargeable as they won't last long at that current draw!
With an extension cord supplying a constant 110/220 volts, you'd have enough current to zap even small, furry animals with that swatter!
watching Futureweapons...
the Israelis built an anti-projectile weapon... called Iron Fist...
it basically knocks out whatever is coming in with an explosive that intercepts the incoming projectile... that includes SA7 RPGs to kinetic energy penetrators!

i think it maintains a high potential difference.. and the bugs close the circuit when they contact the wires...
ZAP!!
