that being said, I also emphatise with those who say that they do not want their kids to serve NS since the gahment treats foreigners better than citizens. the gahmen has failed the social compact.
no, I'd say the goverment is a victim of it's own policies ..... in thinking that money is the solution to everything, we have become a selfish and mercernary society ....
who'd see serving the country as a duty or a higher calling ? ... you think if the SAF is not the most well paid branch of goverment service, there'll be enough regulars to serve ? ....
I laughed out loud and long when I read that our US based training detachments experiences baby booms, with the wives that followed their hubsters there breeding like rabbits .... the cynical mind can deduce their thinking pretty quickly .... it's rather sad isn't it ? ...

yupz unfortunately we need NS. I just wish they could conduct it better and streamline it....

its hard not to be selfish, mercenary, or cynical really. whats the chinese saying, top is crooked bottom will be crooked? our gahment sets a very bad example with their constant emphasis on the bottom line.
I applaud those who choose to have babies in the US. Thats forward thinking!
Put in the same position, I'd do the same!
I think people's perception with NS are linked to their experiences ....
I have a personal friend, a lawyer (some may have met him during my birthday thingy), who was an officer in tekong BMTC during his NS ..... his biggest joy every year, is his reservist stint .....
I mean, if you spent 2.5 years as, say, a store man, who sat for much of that time in a windowless, dusty and dingy office keeping track of coils of concertina wires and counting jerry cans, you're unlikely to think NS was worthwhile, neh ? .....
they are now placing more efforts to make NS a more "meaningful" experience ... however they want to do it, it's good that they've recognized it now ....
I enjoyed my NS. I was lucky to get a good posting. Not all are as lucky.

the increase in muscle mass is why you gained weight. muscle is denser and heavier than fatty tissue. this is good weight gain.

fricken Samoa Joe just did a suicide dive over the top rope onto Christian Cage and Kurt Angle
this is a 290lb guy built like a classic gladiator!
I sound like a broken record...but obviously most of our ministers and mps do not see their jobs as a higher calling. thats why they need to be paid way above the market rate.

what is a "good posting"? wouldn't it be up to the individual? i mean if you go in having all the negative perceptions etc etc...nothing's gonna's work. my thoughts only.

you have a point there..
you see these asswipes going their NS, crying over everything like dirt on their uniform, even a job in the HQ, airconditioned and doing almost nothing except canteen breaks will be a "horrible posting"

they learn that from their parents and our political leaders.
that's alright I think ... I can live with that .... that's how politicians are ..... it's no different in the west actually, something which the nincompoops in SC doesn't understand .....
but if a society runs out of people willing to serve it for a higher calling .... they are farked ....
look at the US, they have no shortage of people willing to line up and fight and die for the flag .... even for a hopeless cause like Iraq ... though they are probably one of the most mercernary country on earth .....

Well, our education ministry is trying to counter that mindset in our younger generation but they're not quite succeeding because their efforts are thwarted by what parents tell their kids at home.
well... many have forgotten we gotta defend e achivements of wat we've today.
Hi Bear, are there hardware shops near your workplace that might sell vernier calipers?

i have a friend who's in the US Army - done at least 2 or 3 tours of Iraq. remember him taking a year off mid way thru a course to serve. i guess if any guys say that to their parents, they'll probably get whacked on the head. it takes a really tough nut to wanna go to Iraq.
