Okay..... now I'm convinced that those SDP nincompoops are out to doom my country.
you know ... dispassionately, from my observations, I sense that there's a correlation between what a man achieves later on in life, and his attitude and behaviour during NS ....
I say attitude and behaviour, not achievements, ranks, or vocation ...
but then that's something one can sense intuitively too .... how you behave in a day or a month or a year is a microsm of your attitude throughout your life ....
and it's attitude, not aptitude, that determines a person's altitude ....

rest assured ,.... there are still some men like that serving our country ... I was fortunate enough to meet a few of them during NS ....
we can all sleep safe at night knowing there are at least a group of men at changi point willing to die for something as abstract as the flag ...... and yes, they are very very good at their jobs .....
btw, I've spoken to some of the SDP jokers many years ago....I tell you, a significant number of them are frikking pacifists who believe you can kumbaya your way out of all problems.

I agree. Some vocations and appointments are indeed worse than others.
But in the end, it's all about how you want to handle your own NS experience.
I've seen far too many REMFs with sibeh slack duties and responsibilities whine about what a terrible experience they've had, etc etc....
And I've also seen frontline grunts who get a lot of crap tossed in their faces take it all in their stride and come out more disciplined and mature.
now asking for regular army
so would we've money for things like infrastructure upgrade or even for tourism related events like F1?

At last... I actually have some work to do... after spending the last 2 weeks just sitting around and surfing the internet.
I will be off on a road trip for site design visits next week (06/10 - 09/10)..... yippie!!!

We already got Gurkhas liao leh.... I guess you need pride in your country to want to serve it and defend it.

the gurkhas are not meant for a military role, despite everything nincompoops in SC would have you belive ....
but I guess the irony, is that Singaporeans are very proud of their country .... even, or perhaps especially those who've left it ....
you know ... I think they'd sound like those PRCs and Indians here .... they all want to get out, and when they got out, all they can talk about is how great their countries are now ...

and i'm gonna have the exact opposite experience! at least for this week since it's Eid/Raya but more importantly, i got the deal sealed. ok, maybe gotta harass some peeps to sign on the dotted line (i think i'm getting quite good at this!).

I some how never got all the hoohaa about some piece of cloth. I mean I'm all for defending the land and pple + your buddies but to get punished for dropping some lousy piece of cloth when you are doing your duty for your country..............
anyway the way I see it, the peeps that are having the slack vocations like clerks are getting the short end of the stick in ns. Yes they are having a slacker time, but you'll realise they get the least out of the 2/2.5 years spent. They don't even get fitter.... They don't even do something really useful most of the time, not to say defend the country
