actually just skimmed through, but at least 1 part of the "petition" made sense. the part about the jehovah witnesses. Instead of jailing them, why not deply them to do admin, cleaning, etc duties. at least it's better than jailing them.....

it isn't about duties..
it's about a soldier.. swearing loyalty to the flag and to the country.. the JW are not allowed to do that..

cos there'll be people to whom such duties would still be preferable to having to serve in other capacities ...
you'll still have a surge of "jehovah witnesses of convenience" ......

well they can still be made to do the duties without swearing loyalty to the flag and country? I don't see an issue with that. I don't think the cleaners or DXOs in mindef need to swear loyalty to flag and country?

doubt that. If we maintain the same terms, aka charged b4 being confined (to do those other work rather than just jailed). If they don't want to change religion now, they won't do it if we change the duties.

those who would not serve because of their religion, would not anyways, what we need is a frame work to prevent other people from using this a a convenient and easy way out .....
besides, if you think about it .... if you increase their length of service if their consentious objectors, then aren't you too, handicapping their future because of their beliefs, taking away an even more precious commodity; time, away from the best time of their youth ? ..... it's a matter of perception, I'd much prefer to have them castrated and made to serve hard labour during their 2 years, but that's just me ....

actually I only took to the part about having them do duties that are more productive. Not the part about extension.pretty against that, sorry for miscom.
As I said we keep everything the same as present except that those jehovah witnesses have to do certain duties or work like admin or such. I doubt adding more work would make it more attractive or more susceptible to abuse than it is presently.

they already have it pretty good ..... they are not "disturbed" and are pretty much left by themselves inside the military prison .... and they are not even housed together with the rest of the other immates .... no marching, no sandbags, no standbys, different food, even a garden for them to tend to .......
I hear it's not even reflected on their records .... what more do they want ? ...... loss of freedom is a small price to pay .... if there are chaps out there burning weekends, sleeping on the ground with rain pelting down on them, feeding leeches and mozzies, eating cold combat rations, I think these peckerless mother-sons can stay in that chalet for 2 years ..... admin duties for them make a mockery of the rest of us ....

I tried doing it already ... in the end the setting just screws up my settings further ... I can't even send out smses ....
