In preparation for soon-to-embark-upon driving lessons, I bought Victorian Ambulance cover a few weeks back.
Then, there are the driving fees, then you purchase a car, and with it, you take on taxes, petrol costs, parking costs, maintenance / repair costs, etc etc. There's no end to it!
However, I've realised that if I do want to enjoy the countryside areas and even go on short vacations to really scenic locations, I have no choice but to learn how to drive. I'm quite faint-hearted... a tad scared of the road bullies and hoons.
You don't have to worry about that
I think all men think that women cmi as drivers
So just drive as you wish coz no matter what they will still cuss at you for being a bloody lady driver
i came back one week before the Singapore day or else i could join in...hahaha!
Holy smokes, lookit them queues. Just as well my friend warned me about them - I decided to go shopping instead.
Then again, if you were stuck in a queue next to someone who invaded your personal space while yelling into his mobile, you'd have gotten a bona fide Singapore experience.
Well, if you wanna organise an event that needs Singaporeans to attend, you dun have to advertise, you dun have to email. You just need a queue. When there is a queue, Singaporeans somehow will just turn up haha.

Compared to Singaporeans, driving in Melbourne was a breeze. They do not horn unnecessarily only when they find its really dangerous. They let you change lane if you signal early unlike Singaporeans who will just go faster so that you cant cut in front of them haha. The only danger I guess is when they get drunk behind the wheel and I guess that happens alot haha. And yeah, the parking fees are a killer and of cos the infamous right turn on left rule in the CBD.....
wah glad u enjoyed yourself!!!
I miss Singapore food also. T_T
Wow! Looking at those images, one could conclude that the bulk of the Singaporean diaspora ended up in Melbourne.
The organizers of Singapore Day 2008 were wise in choosing Melbourne as the event locale, but it remains to be seen if tempting Singaporeans overseas with "local" food will convince them to return.

I think it'd take a lot more than a pck performance and queueing up for small portions of food. Reading the news on Singapore, it's been all bad.
I think it's safe to say that Australia has the biggest contingent of overseas singaporeans .......
which would be a close second ? .... my money goes to the US ...

Don't quote me on this, but I distinctly recall reading an article published in the Singapore press describing the distribution of Singaporeans overseas. If memory serves, Australia had the majority of them, followed by Canada. The UK or the US might have been third.

Breytonhartge commented before, "You're complaining about Melbourne drivers?! Wait till you TRY to drive in Singapore!"
Well, the Melbourne drivers are becoming more and more impatient. More than thrice I've witnessed drivers almost making roadkill out of pedestrians crossing the road when the green man is lighted up, giving pedestrians the right of way. On one occasion, when a driver almost ran down an old man on a wheely frame, I wanted to roll up my sleeves and assault the errant driver! Too bad the car sped off. Tamade WBD!

Nuh-uh! It just made me a tad nostalgic and feel a little bit more fond of Singapore but I won't return just because of propaganda and publicity stunts.
Say what you will, I KNOW that living in Melbourne is better for me in more ways than one - professionally, emotionally, psychologically, financially, and ... erm... anatomically?! Harharhar!!!
Seriously, I've never felt happier and healthier for a longer time than now.

I was quite surprised at how clean the public toilets in the Sidney Myer Music Bowl premise was!
I remember how when I first arrived in Melbourne, when I spotted carelessly discarded insulin syringes outside my block, I thought, "Hmm... must be a very desperate diabetic!"
Then, in the public toilets, when I saw sharp boxes, I thought, "Hmm... so considerate for diabetics!"
And then, I saw the light... they were all the signs of how rampant drug addicts are here!

Last week, it was officially announced that Melbourne is THE largest city in Australia, having overtaken Sydney in terms of population.
I think the govt really have to step up their game and ensure that there's enough housing for all though.
I love Melbourne and there's no other place I want to live in for now, but I really wish the govt here would spend a bit more on infrastructure and city planning and much less on bloody welfare for the lazybums.
