I did want another type of loach... it looks like an eel... but was advised against it cause if the shrimps bred, the loach will eat them all up!
BTW, Pinky, the gobies are soooo amusing! They like to act aggressive but their action is so slow!
Erhmm if the shrimps bred, your gobis will eat them all up anyway.
What's the difference???
Oh the Hillstream loach don't get very big. Max length is around 3 inches + They are scavangers and very peaceful fishes
The eel-like loach is the Kuhli Loach. It should fit well in your tank too I think coz those are scavangers too
And yes brine shrimp are at the bottom of the food chain >.<
Everything I know eat brine shrimps >.<
Tamade aquarium staff fleeced me! He preyed on my concern for my residents to sell me three different types of fishie food! I specifically told him that I thought brine shrimp feeds all but he either lied or he didn't know his stuff.
Sometimes, I think the fish 'professionals' exaggerate things a lot. All my residents are very happy in the little tank. There's enough hiding spots for everyone. If I really listen to the 'experts' and allocate the recommended space for each goby, I can't even keep a single goby in my little tank.
I really want the loach... maybe I go buy later... It's a slinky eel-y thing and it moves almost constantly. It will irritate the bin chow chow gobies! I've seen an aquarium pair the two up. Quite cute - one constantly in motion, the other slow and hesitant to move aka 'energy-efficient'.
I think I love gobies cause I'm also kinda grouchy and 'energy-efficient'.
Yeah that's the Kuhli Loach
Well sometimes it's a trial and error
According to the experts my Gulper cannot be kept with any fish
But what happens? He is the one that gets bullied and not eating up the rest

Your Gulper is so cute! It's so funny that a large predator gets bullied!
I think to your Gulper, his biggest threat is MPB... I'm sure he gets nightmares from his force-feeding sessions! Harharhar!!
Oh! Must share this...
I usually condition my pets to some indication that it's mealtime. I have successfully conditioned my residents too!
First, I rat-a-tap-tap on the side of the tank five times. Then, I turn off the pump and filter temporarily and turn on the lights. At this point, because they've been conditioned, they start to go a little wild with anticipation, zooming here and there...
And then, they get the food! Makan time!!

Very normal way of conditioning
Mine's easier
All I need to do is walk to the tank and they expect food
Haha
When I walk towards their tank, they know that I'm going to take photos or look at them, so they all siam!
Except the shrimps... t hey are pretty much too lazy and contented to move.

Mine all crowds to the 'feeding spot' if they see me or MPB outside the tank
OK... I've got eight new residents in the tank!! :D
Red Ramshore Snails x 2. This one has an existing baby snail resident piggy-back riding on as it crosses the bridge! Hehe!
There are also :
Corydoras Habrosus X 1 (mini catfish that won't grow too large);
Kuhli Loach X 1 (with yellow and black stripes just like the gobies!);and
Cardinal Tetras X 4.
All residents remain mini-sized.
I really wanna get a larger tank now!!
I can take dozens of photos of the gobies and only get ONE remotely 'good' one.
They really look black-faced, hor?! They look grumpy and menacing. I love 'em!
Haha you got a Cory too
They are cute
In SG they call them Lau Su Yu (Mouse Fish :P)

They had quite a few different varieties. I loved an albino one, but it will grow and become the largest resident in the tank. Regretfully, I had to leave that one behind.
Erm... don't you find t he Red Ramshore snails cute?
Yeah... on their behalf, I'm FISHing for compliments.
I didn't know that loaches are so shy!!
Ever since I released the loach into my aquarium this afternoon, I've not seen it again! The last I saw it was when it made a beeline for the tunnel under the bridge where it squirmed inside and then, I never got to see it again!
I hope it's alive and well!

Actually, WHY Lau Shu Yu? Should be Mao Yu (Catfish), innit?

I dunno
But Catfish is too general plus it is already a catfish
Piiiiiiiiiiiiiinkyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! I FINALLY managed to get a photo of my loach!! I used the Night Mode on my digicam and it was sucking contentedly on a food pellet so it didn't bother about my camera!
Here... can see its cute face, mouth, and tiny eyes!
Yr loach looks fat :O
Originally posted by elindra:Yr loach looks fat :O
It's skinny as!! I think it's not lying straight and the belly part is nearest the digicam so when I used the Macro Night Mode, it somehow makes the belly look larger than everywhere else.
If it lies straight, it's just one skinny eel-like creature. Poor thing... looks malnourished...
Well at least you solve your leftover food problem now :P

I have!! There's hardly any leftovers now, and I'm feeding more than I used to even! I'm very happy! The residents seem to have a better appetite now that they have settled in. Even the tetras are less shy about going after the food!
Last night, when I got home from work, I noticed this lying amidst the moss...
I thought, "Oh nooooo!! Some resident has makan'd my shrimp!!"
But on closer scrutiny, if it was really makan'd, there'd be carnage and it wouldn't be this neat!
Then, I saw my two shrimps nestled comfortably amidst the moss and the fake plant leaves. So I realised that oooooh... the bees' knees... one shrimp has moulted!!
I was bewildered and soooo ecstatic when Pinky sms'd to say that only safe and happy shrimps will moult!
And now, I'm sooo inspired to expand my residents' territory by getting a larger tank, at least four times larger!
When my residents are happy, I'm happy!
