Hanor!! I keep reminding the aquarium staff that only mild-mannered, non-aggressive fishes are welcome in my tank.
Here... my new 40L tank!
I have since improved on it by adding more aquatic plants.
Don't you like that cute patch of 'lawn' in front of the bridge?
And that's the driftwood with the calla-lily-like plant that I've been harping on about.
The residents are happy!
Here, you can see three of the four different species of tetras in my tank :
- the complete population of four Runny Nose Tetra (the ones with the red fronts);
- the complete population of eight Amber Tetras; and
- two of four Cardinal Tetras.
They bloody dart around so fast that it's extremely hard to take a good photo of them!
Ya albino long fins are really quite common these days
But than again the rarity of the fish depends on the country too
Like snakeheads are used as feeders in Singapore but expensive and rare in USA
wah, so nice.

My albino long fin was only AUD 39. The aquarium bloke was telling me that when the species was first in the market, they cost AUD 300!
He was telling me that his boss created this species and I kept saying, "No way!!" Don't know whether he sian or not. I hope someday I get to see their breeding room where all their breeding tanks are kept.
I'm waiting for a suitable day off to make a trip to Coburg where a laaaaarge aquarium exists!
Once I learn how to drive, I can drive to aquariums all over Melbourne and even meet up with breeders to buy direct from them because it's so much cheaper!
I'm quite into shrimps! Judging by the posts in one Melbourne fish forums, there are a few shrimp breeders here and they're selling their shrimps at really good prices.
I couldn't resist buying Cherry Shrimps X 5 the other day cause they were 5 for AUD 40 nia. Sale!!
The only close-up I can take well is that of a snail! Harharharharhar!!
All the other residents are just way too fast for me! Zipping here and there! It doesn't help that they are also tiny. Siiiigh... My current digicam is not up to the challenge.

I think he is bullshitting you
Btw how big is your bristlenose and how big is your peppermint coz the price you paid can get a full grown one here in SG
What grade are the Cherry Shrimps :O

I also think he is borak-ing. I didn't believe him because if the owner really 'created' that breed, I'm sure they'll put up some plaque to announce the fact right at the door of their shop.
They are both babies... maybe 2-3cm long only.
I think you have to stop comparing prices. It took me 2.5 years to get used to the bloody rip-off prices in the aquariums here. ONE freaking guppy costs AUD 4-5!! Why did you think it took me this long before deciding to get a tank? Even bloody elodeas that are so dirt cheap back in SG cost almost AUD 4 here! I visited 5-6 aquariums over the past 2 years for a price comparison first and to this day, I remain shocked, but what to do... it's what I have to pay if I want to keep an aquarium here.
The cherry reds are ungraded. They are definitely not the top grades. But I'm happy with them because I love to watch them pick at the moss. To get the top grades, I'll have to drive to some breeders' home which is in some suburb I've never heard of and the cost of petrol to drive there and back, plus the possibility of a few of them dying on the way back, might not make the good price worth the while. Besides, they will surely sell to their kaki's first before they'd even consider selling to me.
Basically, I don't have the privilege of paying so little for a lot, like what you guys enjoy back in SG. That is one unfortunate fact of living here.
Actually I'm bulking at the prices of pet fishes and it is one reason down for me to live in Australia. Har har har
It's just too convinient here and you can easily fly to Thailand, Hongkong, Taiwan or even Japan to pick up exotic fishes and AVA don't give you any hassles if you fill up the permits correctly
Btw your plecos will love Algae
Just get them Hikari Algae Waffers as a treat for them or the occasional slice of cucumber :)

The obscene amount that I've paid to set up my aquarium here, I'd be able to get a few exotics back home. But what to do... I love my lifestyle here.
I wouldn't think of importing any exotic fishes over because by the time Customs and Quarantine here make up their minds, they would have started the decomposition process liao!
I paid an outrageous sum for the Crystal Red Shrimps, but I've only seen it in this one aquarium in almost two years so, bo bian!
The Cherry Reds are a good price, in the Aussie context. They had tiny eeeny-bitty baby Cherry Reds for AUD 19.95!!! The price disparity is because they managed to get a lot of larger Cherry Reds at 'cheaper' prices.
I think you should just consider breeding shrimps to supplement your income
Haha
They breed easily anyway and you can try crossing them for hybrids and what not that can get higher prices due to the novelty value
A lot of people are doing that here or they breed out the bad quality in a C grade to an A grade
It can be done but you need patience
