With growing income gap make worse by global recession,,,will many rethinking of emigration as away out of high cost island?
Depends on the location. We're struggling here too.
Migrating to another first world country in times of recession may not so wise as they may do far worst than us.
Maybe India or some other emerging countries may be an ideal place because while the rest of the world is struggling, these countries may be thriving with opportunities.

1 recession and you think of running away -_-"
This is going to be a world wide recession. Where do you want to run to?
It takes money to emigrate, and there's no guarantee that the country to which you're emigrating isn't itself adversely affected by the global recession.

My exact thoughts! No matter which country you run to, you won't be "recession-proof".
What makes you think that developed countries will accept migrants when the unemployment rate in their own backyard is going to be high? Australia has already announced that they are considering cutting back on the no. of migrants they will allow into the country.
Hmm... I think this is the 2nd recession I've seen in my lifetime, not including the pretty current Asian Crisis triggered by George Soros. I hope I will never get to experience a Depression in my lifetime...
Tsk...he's so shortsighted...
If you want to go, just go, and don't make so much noise about it.

On the plus side, many illegals are heading back to Mexico.
I'm thinking of migrating in future too.... after I keep seeing the prices of everything keep raising up in SG and the gahman is not helping to keep the prices of public facilities/utilities/transport low... haiz
And now coupled with resssion .... life getting harder = =
No recession in Mongolia.
At least I hope.

Well, surprise... most developed countries are facing the same issues. It's going to be hard to run away from rising costs of living unless the recession gets so drastic that prices slide dramatically... but then that would mean that our disposable incomes will see a corresponding decrease or worse, a total and abrupt disappearance!
It's all about the greed of man aka ding hai effect...lol
SG will be more like HK whereas shanghai will slowly replaced HK
