you guys would like to take one of the days in december to do something more meaningful ? .....
like take the folks at an old folks home for a christmas outing ? .... bring some under-privileged kids to play for the day ... something like that ....
i have some lobangs on hand from long ago ... and someone just gave me a phone call about it .....
how about that ? ... we have our blood donation drives already .. how about brightening up someone else's day for a change ? ...
it may cost everyone a little bit of money ... but even if you just volunteer your time ... it would be very precious as well ....
if christmas is too rush ... new year would be a good time too .... or we can plan for CNY as well .....
make a mark here if you're interested ?
NOTE: I have people asking me if the potluck's off .... No ! ... this is NOT replacing the potluck ..... gluttony trumps everything ! ... this is a separate event ....
i'll be visiting Radion
we can't all visit radion ...
so this year potluck we got no official photographer lah ...

okie ... but back to this thing ...
what do you think guys ? ....
there'll be some logistics involved ... chartering a bus maybe ....
arranging with the organization etc ....
we can make some old folks or kids very happy for a day ... or we can keep it simple and work through the CDCs and get together some hampers or something to distribute .....
i can arrange all these .... I'll even sacrifice some beer money ....
erm don't think you should go through the cdc, don't know how they run those things............
give us a time, place.. and all that for us to get some leave..
No need to take leave.
Do it during christmas day itself.
okie .... I've anticipated that ......
I don't think people'd want to burn their holidays too .... so it definitely won't be over the holidays .....
i'll go talk to my friends about this soon ...... if there's not enough critical mass, I guess we'd tag along with their informal grouping ? ... (non-religious of course)
mean time ... I assume that those here are interested ? ...
well, i don't mind on christmas itself...
just tell us
not that interested, but i'll see what's on the plans before deciding.

Just let me know the date time and place
It sounds like a good idea.
Just let us know the date/time/place. Will try to work my schedule around it.
my preference is to do something for special needs children.

non political too
yeah, okie ... non-political too of course ...
and special needs children .... are a bit difficult ....
worked with them before ..... because they are so vulnerable ... you got to let the people responsible trust you first before they'll release the kids into your hands .... it's gonna be difficult if we come in with a one off, ad hoc plan too ....
you got to remember too, that kids make friends for life .... how would they feel, if it's just a hi-bye thing and they are never gonna see the gor gor and jie jies ever again ? ....
I was just talking about it with a friend over lunch ... chap's an active volunteer ... he says, the best thing would be to avoid individual chaperones and try not to get too close ....
occifer fattyum
Pm me time/date/venue.

okie ...
those who are intereseted ... please leave a mark here ...
count me in, if its children. I can't speak any dialects so i'm pretty useless with the elderly.

x2
I only speak a smattering of Hokkien
Maybe ...Club Rainbow or the Children Cancer Foundation??
Or maybe an Orphanage
okie ... I'll see what I can arrange ....
what's more important, is that we have the critical mass to pull this off ....
A suggestion :)
YMCA organises this camp for intellectually and physically disabled youths twice a year. I brought my students to one of the camps and it was really fantastic. IN june, the volunteers were mainly students from tertiery but they mentioned that during the year end camps, more working adults join. It can be physically taxing and tiring, but I find that it really challenges both the volunteers AND the beneficieries.
If you are interested can check out the website :)

Oh.. it would be good if you join only if you are able to commit for the days. The previous time almost 50 volunteers pulled out last minute and logistically it was very difficult for the organisers looking for volunteers at the last minute.
