most likely they were trying to save costs..
But are any of the cost savings passed back to the consumer?

Sounds like a win-win situation for both parties: the LTA rakes in cash from the "fine" and SBST increases its operating revenue stream from the fare hike that the LTA is sure to approve.
It smells almost like a conspiracy, with the ultimate losers being the consumers.

That's the usual.
They raised fares citing fuel costs, now they tell us that fuel costs are not important enough to justify lower fares despite waaaay lower fuel costs now.
If they are aiming for price stability....fine.
But you dont come up with shitty excuses for not lowering the fares which includes citing other factors besides fuel, when fuel costs were cited as the MOST important reason back then.

I guess $$$$ dictates the bottom line.

To the extent of showing you ads before you can even start loading the videos? I think that's rather much, and is too similar to what television corporations put us through.

Ah well... the creators are definitely motivated by $$ when they created YouTube. What else can motivate them to do so? I doubt that altruism was top on their list.
And anyways, it being a free service, they can basically do whatever they want to generate revenue. It's kinda like, would you rather grin and put up with the ads or have them shut down the site altogether?
Tamade... my firewall put a stop to my gleeful game-playing by deleting ALL the files with the word "generic" in it, thinking that they are all trojans!
The only way I could solve this was to disable the firewall. Not too smart a move, but whitelisting didn't work either and I was desperate... to... play my game... Oh... make that gameS...
I'm not so concerned about the money bit. However, the situation is slowly shifting from "you can put up whatever you like within the guidelines" (your own videos, slideshows and recordings from events) to one where you get only corporations want you to see.
Already, some ISPs are moving to provide exclusive content and faster access to websites that they tie up with. How different is that from watching TV?
