Does cookbook count?

If you count comics, especially the chinese series.
Then I am counted as read plenty. 6 books a day is normal.
Whenever I request to go roll on my fren's bed, he is always terribly outraged, cos I occupied his bed and spent time there reading his expensive collection of comics.
Another fren is suppose to open a comic shop with his own collection of comics. We are still waiting and hoping to get free reading cards from him.
Newspapers, comics and graphic novels, and magazines are not counted. Otherwise, if mags are counted, then every year, I would have read at least 80 liao.
Cookbooks also not counted unless the narrative is more than 50% of the content. Would that be fair, peeps?
can I be part of this although I am sort of not a regular here? >.<
I can read up to 20 books this year, might be able to reach 30 haha.
So far from the beginning of this year I have already read 3 and am now reading my 4th :P
But mostly chick lit books though...

Welcome to the circle of booklovers!
Alrighty... 10 books for 2009. Will update our list!
We just got this thing going for 2009. For 2008 and previous years, all we had was just a thread talking about the books we have read for that particular month. We weren't very regular with the thread though and sometimes, we went for months without anyone starting that thread.
Now, we're trying to set things in motion by starting a little club. I noticed that over the years, a few avid readers started to fall off the wagon, including myself, due to work and other responsibilities. Also, we seem to have Club 30 peeps who never seemed to have stopped reading ardently. I thought it'll be great to keep up the reading habit and gather like-minded folks together for scoops on books!
tare asked, keii asked, and now, 7mins asked...
Graphic novels... what do you all think? Should they be included in the book count or not?
OK, you guys have to help me with updating the tally here... How many books have you managed to read thus far? I know a few of you, like cassie, already has a spectacular headstart on her tally!
So, for instance, if you committed yourself to reading 10 books, and you've already read 2. If you'd update me here, I will put your tally down as 2/10. This will help us keep track and hopefully serve as a nudge to those of us who are falling short of our goal.
cassie, I've already updated your tally, but what's your target no. of books for this year?
Does re-reading books you have read before count?
Err does detective and mystery pulp fiction count?
Does children's books count?

let's not go into that...rather not set targets i can't meet. i read whenever i've a spot of time and going by this week, that's gonna be extremely rare from now onwards
Ok, so far I have read like 4 books over the Chinese New Year :D
Mine is 3 cos... Doan and Carstairs Series have 3 books! :D :D counted or not like this?
I dont have target one also leh... just run up the tab as I go along! *hic!*
I still find myself sleeping everytime I try to figure out "The Roaring Nineties".

Oh, there are some books that do that to you. The trick is, if you really really wanna finish reading the book, you can balance reading a few other books in between. Now, I've picked up a few really 'dry' non-fiction titles so I'm balancing reading two at the same time. I remember years ago, I used to balance up to six at one shot, all of different genre, fiction and non-fiction, to break the monotony, and to train my mind to handle a few different themes at the same time... sort of...
All said, there have been one or two books which I absolutely could not see to completion, no matter what! In such cases, best to just abandon ship... er... book, and move on! Maybe, you and that book, just no 'yuan2 fen4'!
