1 thing i never save on is new clothes
Since leaving Sg many moons ago, I don't celebrate like I used to. No new clothes, no new nothing. Just pull out the steamboat and have a quiet makan, give kids ang pows and that's it.
Well, just now was communicating with a family, they actually bought me a tick to fly up to Houston Texas and back to OC!
So my chinese new year thingy to do is prepare some more angbaos for the kids at home and the kids over in Texas. Bringing over the last box of Bak Gua to them too.
So technically, my duties is just to disperse angbaos.
The past 6 years CNY has been simple. Usually buy a pair of jeans, two pieces of polo shirts & a fresh new eyeshadow colour. (I read in some feng shui book that I needed green eyeshadow for the new year, so went to buy it.)
And now in USA, kinda overdid the shopping thing, so I wont need to be buying more new stuffs for CNY.
your amount of shopping can last at least 5 CNYs lar!

- Will you buy new outfits for CNY? Budget? How many suits? Already bought?
- What will be the most expensive food item on your table this year? Do you intend to scale back on food for the Reunion Dinner?
- Those who are giving out ang pow's, what are your plans?
etc etc.
Even if we can't afford to celebrate CNY like we used to all the previous years, we can at least talk about it and get a bit excited over it.
This year's CNY was very different from last year's. Last year, we were in Sydney & our friends brought back yu sheng for us & the 4 of us celebrated CNY together.
This year, I'm back in Singapore (yay!) Had 2 reunion dinners - 1st with immediate family & cousin, and the 2nd with in-laws.
1) I bought 2 CNY tops from Baleno! Wore them for reunion dinners & first day visitation
2) The most expensive food item was the sushi/sashimi delights that my cousin bought from Liang Court. About $55/tray! We also ordered the CNY package from Cold Storage so my mum wouldn't have to tire herself out with all the cooking. We had herbal chicken, glutinous rice, soup, vegies, and various other yummy dishes.
3) Gave ang pows to only 5 ppl this year... my 2 nieces, my parents, & the maid.
