I didn't go to preschool and I admit I lost out quite a bit on social skills and had a little trouble adjusting to school life at the beginning.
But is preschool such a big deal?
why u care bout missing out on preschool now

Cos today's newspaper has it on the Home front page......urging all to go.
simi pre-school?
kindergarten?
I hardly remember what it was all about. But if that was your first time being part of a large group of kids, especially if they're not related to you, I think it might have had an effect.
As a five year old, I spent that year haunting the areas around my house, instead of going to kindergarten.
That includes visiting the causeway everyday (I lived in Woodlands)........so I dont really regret not going to preschool.
i went to kindy.. the only memory is fighting with some other child
I have a girl at work who's entirely homeschooled, and she seems well-adjusted, perhaps because she takes part in other activities outside the home (dance, art, etc)
I went to kindergarten. Some religious organization.
Lately I've seen flyers advertising tuition for kindergarten kids.
I was, like, WTF?
It really depends on individuals although environment plays a big role in my opinion.
Did it ever occur to you that you can send a kid to kindergarten, and that poor kid can end up being bullied by the others?
I kinda remembered being left out by the others during playtime and the only occasion when everyone else wanted to play with me was during my birthday when mom was around and there were balloons and a huge birthday cake in the shape of a book (because I love to read). I think I was 5 or 6 years old then.
I can remember a few pages from our colouring books. I loved learning and being in kindergarten. I remember when the other kids refused to play with me, I'll just wander off around the kindergarten, climbing up the small hill, looking at the flora, sitting on the steps leading to the church and just daydreaming.

That's ridiculous!! At this rate, we're breeding a new generation of young Singaporeans who will go postal and sooner or later, we'll have our own little Columbine on our hands!
........... u are blaming ur lack of social skills on ...pre school ?
i only entered school from K2 onwards due to my disability, i dont see any problems with my social skills though...Social skills can be learned, no worries...

dang!
you know, I'll admit my social skills need working on, but the lack of pre-school certainly wasn't a contributing factor!
I think that children of that age.. (3 to 6) must have opportunities to play with other groups of children - that's an important process of growing up. Whether they get it through preschool or what is not important.
but I have had kids... who enter my class without any pre-school experiences.. and waaa.. it is really terrifying for them. And that's for a class of 8. Imagine going to a class of 35 in Primary 1... if you never had any opportunity PLAYING in classes of 15 - 20 before.

it's an evil plan for the man in white to get ppl to start to pay and pay as early as possible ... afterall most of sg presch is owned by them...
to me i can only rem the horrible fact tat the kids were screaming and crying on 1st day... lemme go dig out my poem on tat hahahahaa
sitting in a corner, feeling trapped
by strange creatures that screamed
and cried for their mothers;
does tears blind their eyes? i wondered
as they failed to see the one they longed for
are just a glass panel away.
i watched in silence the teacher who
was too busy to teach; trying her utmost
to coax a class of thirty-nine.
soon a familiar face appeared beyond
the windows and panicking mothers;
my very own to save me from this noisy chamber.
