I love their big meat pao and their char siew pao too. Their cheong fun is also not bad. Their congee is way too saltish though.
The grocery shops at Boxhill seem to be more hygienic than the Vietnamese ones in Victoria St.
How long have you been here, redDust?
i am a newbie, got here end nov....in the short 10 weeks, now just waiting for snow to complete my `4 season experience', ;-)

I've yet to see snow myself... and I've been here since May 2006. Every year I make plans to head up to Mt Buller with different groups of friends, and every year, all of us 'fly aeroplane'. This year, I don't care, I must die-die drag somebody to go up there with me!
There are quite a few of us from the forums in Melbourne. Honeymouse, myself, Gedanken and fairlady. Oh, Bear's sis is also here. In fact, Honeymouse, myself, and Bear's sis often go out on outings together. We've picked all sorts of berries already. Maybe you can join us next time!

yeah, i doubt melbourne will ever snow even tho i was told it will be very cold closer to winter.
we went to thredbo during winter last year as our first entry requirement and it was a blast! it was actually snowing heaps and our kids loved it.
p.s. honeymouse did help me alot with lots of her good advise in my `early days', for which i am grateful. my neighbours have been great too. touch wood, so far, our `integration' phase into aussie life have been seamless. we have been made welcome by almost everyone we meet. i hope in time to come when i am an `old bird', i can pay it forward. my only grouse is that all my guy neighbors just talk cricket and footies, one of the very few games i dun understand. i can't hold conversations with them for too long. guess i have some ways to go.....

I have no interest in cricket nor footie nor ... whatever else they play here, except to oogle at the male players. I chose to support the Cats, which lost to the Hawks in last year's game... erm... am I right?

My first two years here, in Winter, I had small nosebleeds which clotted up my nostrils so bad I had to excuse myself every once in a while to blow my nose.
The last winter, which was my third, I noticed that the incidence of nosebleeds had dropped drastically. I guess I'm slowly getting used to it. I love all Seasons here except Summer and I love Winter the best. Late Autumn and Early Spring can be tricky cause of the heavy rain with strong winds that sometimes occur.
Sometimes on Saturdays, we meet in Boxhill's Dai Pai Dong for lunch. Join us one of these Saturdays?

Ah, you guys arrived too late. I think it was Christmas 2006 that it snowed a few suburbs away from me.
Yeah, December. Go figure.

I was already here then! I remember you talking about it and I remember the front page photos in The Age as well. I arrived in May 2006.
Which suburb are you living in, Ged?
I'm in Doncaster. There was some snow falling in either Mitcham or Nunawading - I can't remember which.
I never knew it snows in the australian suburbs ....
I was told to see snow you'd have to go to the snowy mountains ...

It doesn't, and certainly not in summer. That was just freaky.
my wierd weather encounter was in early dec when i was driving near alexandra parade.
in 3 traffic lights stops, and in less than 3 mins, the electronic temperature gauge in my car drop 5 degrees celcius. spooky.
And on the other side of the world, Britain's in the midst of chaos and joy - no buses in London and plenty of half-buried cars, but people are out in the heaviest snowfall in 18 years.

What's wrong with snow in December?
Oh, wait...

plus they are harmless too....i just shoo them away if they come near my living area....not sure where u live but the city of whitehorse council (where i am in) do produce a nice poster that details all common insects and bugs in the area. i stick the poster up in my kids' room so they find out more about them and hopefully overcome their fear and come to terms with living with these creepy crawlies in peace.
Hey! When I was in Melbourne in December, I was laughing at the name when Rhonda & I took a tram and we passed this sign! I think that's one of the few names I remember from our tram ride

Yes I did. Superceded.

Yeah, MG - our toilets flush the wrong way.

Yeah... for some reason, you were very tickled by "Whitehorse Road".

Ooh! Bear's sis used to reside in Doncaster but has since moved. She told me that there are lots of wonderful Chinese restaurants in Doncaster and you can even get Yu Sheng during the Chinese New Year.
Sooo... did you Lo Hei?
redDUST, I'm pasting your post in here, k?
From redDUST, posted in another thread in Club 30 :
The sun rises on our 'worst day in history'
Today is likely to be among the hottest on record in Victoria, and the effects of the heatwave are adding up across the state.
THE weather bureau tells Lou Bennett it's 44 degrees. But he trusts better his own thermometer, rigged up on the back verandah. It says 52.
It doesn't really matter anyway, whatever the number, the sun feels oppressively, infernally hot, and he'll be out in it......

yup, close all window and curtain, aircon switched on at the hall, board games and tv as source of entertainment to ride this out....sianz....
This non-ending drought is really affecting produce and grocery prices. My bro and family were extremely shocked at how expensive dairy products, bread, and even meat and vegetables and fruits are here. They had expected that the prices would be much lower because the produce are all grown here.
I'm still fretting over the price increase for Longans - AUD 11-12 / kg last year, but this year, it's AUD 16 / kg! No makan longans this year.
Well, good thing that's all over and done with. Back to business as usual.
Yup, 46 today. A new record, I believe.
Originally posted by Gedanken:Yup, 46 today. A new record, I believe.
It is a record alright! Today's newspaper declared it as 46.4 deg C.
Strangely enough, because I kept my windows closed from the early morn, my apt never got as warm as it did during the heat wave. I guess the trick is to not let the wind blow hot air into the apt at all.
I think it'll be worse next year. It seems to get worse with each passing year!
