They are listed as CITES 1 in the wild but they are breeding like mice in the labs of USA
Coz of their regenerative abilities they are a popular lab subject

anyway, if they can breed them, why not flog them to serious hobbyists? but then, looking at the idiots out there, they'd go release them in the wild here
