The sun rises on our 'worst day in history'
Today is likely to be among the hottest on record in Victoria, and the effects of the heatwave are adding up across the state.
THE weather bureau tells Lou Bennett it's 44 degrees. But he trusts better his own thermometer, rigged up on the back verandah. It says 52.
It doesn't really matter anyway, whatever the number, the sun feels oppressively, infernally hot, and he'll be out in it......

Lau, at the high temperatures here, the walls of my house feel hot, my furniture feels hot, and you can't sleep basically because your bed feels hot!! There are strong gusts of wind blowing outside now, but all my windows and door are shut because if you don't shut them, the wind will blow hot air into your home! And you can have cold showers throughout the day, but just like in Singapore, you step out of the shower and you sweat. The only difference is, in Singapore, the heat and humidity makes you sweat. Over here, it's the sheer heat alone that makes you sweat.

My apartment is small. That's a factor that prevented me from getting one for this Summer. Back in Spring, I was already talking about getting one, but I thought, it occupies space, which I don't have much of, and it'll only be used a few days a year. And the rest of the time, it'll be occupying dead space.

What is not obvious is whether or not you might be one of those idiots who will clean the PC when it's still on. Stranger things have happened...
Also, another thing that is not obvious is if you have a laptop AND a PC, in which case you can be online on your laptop and clean your PC.
Or, you can be in some internet cafe and talking about cleaning your PC at home at a future date.
So many possibilities.

I can relate. Summers in Japan are very hot. 40C heat is no joke. The older homes have little or no insulation so houses are like ovens in the summer and iceboxes in the winter. The liquid detergent froze in my house. We had to rely on kerosene heaters for warmth. They did the job but the smell!
In the summer, we throw all the windows open, hoping for a cross breeze. Even so, looking back, though I complained about having to live there, I enjoyed the Japanese experience.
... it's to pray for the poor victims of the disastrous bushfires here in Victoria and to pray that the winds today will not threaten other neighbouring suburbs. .
