Amidst the bushfire tragedy in Victoria, Australia, heartwarming stories arise. In this YouTube videoclip, a fireman finds a stranded koala in a burnt out forest and offers the koala a drink.

Oh yeah! I remember when I first arrived here in Melbourne, I saw this man walking his dog and he turned around to talk to the dog loudly and very naturally, and said, "You like the walk, mate? Wanna go home now?"
I had to stop myself from giggling because I was so tickled hearing a man call his dog 'mate'! You have to admit though, it's very endearing. I like how they treat animals here. Their pets are really part of their families!

Yeah! There's a thread on that here! Think it's from Fatum and it's called "Koala having a pom pom" or something like that.
I feel really sad for the koalas. Because of the prolonged drought, a lot of ponds and rivers have actually dried up and the koala, as a result, has lost its vital sources of water. They already live in a very dry climate and with water at a scarcity, I'm sure that koala was extremely thrilled to be soaking in a tub of water! Probably it's very first soak of its life!

Oh yeah... The Blair Witch Project. It was a novel idea, and it was endurable for me for the first 15 mins or so but very quickly afterwards, I felt nauseous and giddy and I remember turning to my nursing classmates, whom I went to watch the movie with, to tell them that I feel like throwing up.

hopefullly he didn't really take it as a mate..........
I simply had to share this front-page photo of The Herald Sun today of the fireman in the videoclip being reunited with the koala, Samantha.
They seem to be enjoying a nose-kiss, feline-style! I wonder if the koala recognises her hero. Awwww...
The poor little koala found slumped at the foot of a tree because its paws were burnt from the bushfire. She is now receiving treatment at an animal shelter and her carers change her dressings daily. The underside of the poor koala's paws are apparently pink and raw because of the burns. She will survive though, because she is in good hands!

hope the culprit that set fire got burnt too ...
Apparently, the police have caught two men caught to be 'loitering suspiciously' in a farmhouse area in one of the affected towns. No further news have been released at this stage so we do not know if they are being held for suspected arson or if they are looters.
Initially, the authorities thought 3-4 of the fires have been lit by arsonists but now, they believe it's just one fire, near Maryville.
Today, there was an alarm in one of the towns when a teenager on a motorbike had an accident and skidded on the road and the sparks caused by his motorbike against the tarmac sparked a bushfire that the CFA thankfully managed to control! Conditions are so dry and windy here that even a spark like that can start a bushfire!!
there's a small pic of it in the ST today..
cute fellow..

Oh really? So this fireman hero and his koala mate is famous in SG too?
Apparently, the photo of the fireman giving water to the koala has been bought by major newspapers in the US and UK too. Don't you love how the koala places her paws on the fireman's hand, just like how babies do when you're giving them the bottle sometimes, just to 'make sure' that you don't remove the bottle?
juz hope dat she'll get her paws recovered soon..
heard lots of wildlife was greatly affected & even one turtle got its shell melted & stuck on its body..

I didn't read about the turtle, poor thing!
Herald Sun estimated that up to 1 million wildlife have perished in the bushfires.
I really hope that today and tomorrow, the CFA can keep the fires under control and stop them because come weekend, strong winds will start to fan the flames and spread any existing bushfires. There's mention that if two of the large bushfires were to meet and combine, there will be one huge superfire that will be really hard to control!
pity all the wildlife there..
even after the fire has been put out, they must still be careful of those small "pocket" fire as it might be dangerous at a later stage..
btw, its due to the dry season & not some work of an arson rite..
and didn't she have a koala boyfriend while receiving treatment too?
