How much is your electricity bill?

I live in a 4 room HDB and my monthly bill is usually $300 a month, but every 2-3 months, it goes to $250, and after 2-3 months again, it goes to $400, like it did this month.
It's so crazy- how can the power bill go up when 2 people actually moved out of the place, leaving me alone?
It doesnt matter if appliances get turned on or off. The bill stays about the same.
How much do you guys pay for your place? Be very interested in 4 room places.

4 room, mine seems to be below 150 with 4 person but without aircon

4 room.. 4 ppl.. 250 dollar usually..
with a around 12 hour daily aircon.. and fan these all are usually turned on..

I know it doesn't answer your question, but in Germany I'm paying about $100-120 per month living alone. The prices therefore are comparable I think.

I usually keep one aircon on 24/7.But I cant believe one air con unit means my bill is double yours!
And I tried one month no air con- no change in bill.
I called Sp service once about this they said they take estimates, and only check meter once in a while.
I wonder what would happen if I unplugged every electrical device for a month- use nothing.

my house about triple the size of a 5 bedroom hdb 2758sqft....i only pay $120++ a month woh....i live alone also....

$300 a month is $3600 a year. A lot of money to be overcharged.

electrical bills are estimated monthly... so if u have high usage every mth, just trying to cut ONE mth won't reflect much difference...
5room 2 person w/o aircon was ard $120-150... urs is over the board lor... do u actually need the aircon 24/7? try using fan and off the main switch of all electrical applicances when not in use, eg. kettle, tv, comp...
try to consolidate ur washing, avoid doing half loads... half loads =X= half the electricity...

SP gives Estimates for your bill
Eg they see your average last 3 month $ 300 ( 400 + 300+ 200 eg), they will charge u this month $300,
therefore if u have someonw moving out or in for a month or 2, they will still charge u on estimated amount
Eg if u have increased usage , it may only reflect in a couple of months times
this is what i knows

bill will normally come up to $100-$120, the most i ever seen is $150
no air con btw -
i do believe our meters are checked every other month, cause there are just not enough manpower to check every meters in sg.
now, if U are unsure why you are charged so much, you can take your own readings and submit, also, there is a meter that you can install to check how much you are using in your unit so as to ensure there is no "theft"..
and yes, air-con does consume, do you use other appliances like microwave, water-heater, a high powered PC, etc? It does not means two units will have the same bills if they on one air-con,other factors too..
hence want to be sure, install a meter then you can compare and know where you using..

I think it saves them the trouble of hiring guys to check the meters every month.
They check on your meter once per 2 months, basically estimating your 2nd month's usage from the 1st month's.
But when they check on the 3rd month's usage and find it to be wrong they would refund you the difference on the 4th.
That's how my electricity bill dropped to 60 from 300 when my tenants went back to China.

aiyo... so stewpig to compare bills based on room size.... they charge based on consumption la... u live 4 rm , i live 4 rm, u aircon 24/7 , i fan 24/7, my bills definitely lower than urs... in this kind of recession period,best is monitor ur own consumption n find out how they calcuate bill etc... knowledge = power...

They once send me a utilities bill, I send them a picture of me crouching, ready to strike. I've never recieved any bills since then, it has been years!

Thanks to everyone for their replies.
It sounds like a single aircon unit being on a lot is my major culprit. From now on I'll turn it off a lot more, and hopefully I'll see a smaller bill in 2 or 3 months.
