actually, restructuring if after the debts are paid, AIG could be good..
remember this.. it's something the people in SC forgot.. Temasek is not just there for profit.. it is a political tool...
by buying AIG, it's like getting a stake in UBS.. it's buying influence..

Believe it or not, i was playing basketball the next day afternoon. Yah, now that I walk pass the stall everytime with my colleagues, I say Charlie's head chopping corner!

i think they are talking about AIA (AIG's asian operations). It is quite profitable even today. If they buy, and the business don't screw up, it is a good buy. Not might not necessary for the policy holders.

if buying business of insurance - then yes. if buying entire business (ie including the asset management and derivatives and CDS units), then no - despite the US govt "implicit guarantee". my thinking is the US govt debt is way too high. -
