  Hullo.. a few friends and I just set up this club based at the Toa Payoh Central CC. Currently our focus is to work with youths with special needs in the community :)

  We also hope to work with youths at risk in future!

  what kind of "special needs" ?

  there is this system called El Sistema which is very effective keeping the vulnerable youth off the streets in Venezuela.. that could work here too?

  Currently the group we are working with is a group of youths with intellectual disabilities.

  We also hope to start working with more youths with multiple/physical disabilities as well.

   

  I been in a project where they pear up youth offenders to do community service with youths with special needs.. and I find that it was pretty successful. I hope eventually we can provide them with the opportunity to continue volunteering, and hopefully provide them with a different form of socialisation away from the previous circle. This particular project (which I havent had the time to do anything about yet) - I am looking for matured people to mentor them in planning and executing ideas.

  We just starting la... and its just a couple of us... so its 'slow' development... only when we free then we do something :P

  hmm..you mean autistic and dyslexic kids? what about those with down's syndrome?

  Down syndromewould be 'classified' under Intellectual disabilities and yes, actually this is the group we are working with now at our music and dance class every Friday!

   

  They LURVE music and you gotta see them GROOVE it!

   

  People with dyslexia would normally not have intellectual disability, but rather a learning disability.

  We are hoping to organise 2 activities this June holidays and we need volunteers to help carry them out! Do let us know if you are interested to volunteer!
  
  1) Board Games Session - Let's play some cool board games.
  (Likely to be held 6 June AM )
  
  We Need:
  
  Poster designer (1) : To design poster to help publicise the event
  MC (1-2): Someone to coordinate and create the mood on that day.
  Game Masters (10 - 12): People who learn the game well and teach it to the kids
  as well as Volunteers to assist in the games and help the kids to play
  Entertainers (1 - 3): Can you make cool balloon animals? Can you juggle? can you do simple magic tricks?
  Logistics and Planning (1-2): To assist in overall logistics, planning, publicity.
  
  
  2) Baking Session - Bake Daddy some Muffins(?) for Father's Day?
  (Likely to be held 20 June 2009 AM)
  A baking session for youths with special needs to teach and help them to bake something for their Daddies for Father's Day.
  
  We need:
  Poster designer (1) : Make a poster for this event to help us publicise.Baking Teacher (1) : Don't have to be expert, just be willing to share!
  Assistant bakers (10+) : to assist the kids in their tasks
  Logistics (1 - 2) : To assist in overall logistics and planning.
