Privacy in Facebook

Today's internet lesson was on Facebook and when I was assisting my students to set up their accounts, they urged me to add them on my list.
So I added them - putting them into the 'students' contact list (which is excluded from about everything)
THEN I REALISED under THEIR friends suggestions - are a whole bunch of MY FRIENDS!!! I can't seem to remove that?! Any suggestions????(if you are on my FB, then pls dont add them if they suddenly add you or something!_)

i guess you excluded them from those u do not want them to view, but their friends suggestions that showed your friends probably is automatic feature which u can't possibly disable that's why. u try to create one dummy facebook account and add to yourself, and go and view that dummy account's suggestion list, whether it happens or not

block them then explain to them why u did that

I don't wish to block them - i do wish to communicate with them via Facebook
I just don't wish my own personal contacts to appear in their 'suggestions' sidebar automatically!

One day if the settings for one reason or other get screwed up, everybody will see everybody.
And all hell breaks loose.

delete your facebook account.
simple as that.

create another facebook account just for them

there is a group of facebook stalkers. must be really careful with them.

yup i also have the same idea, since you wanna contact with them via facebook.
and you dont want them to interfere or know your personal/friend's life, why not i mean? :)

and use different name
if not they will curious search for your name, and find out that you got two account

Not sure how to disable that
Anyway for me, I don't add you if I don't know you
I do have strangers adding me at times but I never add them.

It's up to your friends whether they want to add them mah... so why you worry?

actualyl what you should do is to set up one account for "work purposes"

Actually... I'm not too particular about my OWN privacy.
But I guess I was just shocked to see... other people's pics on my kids' accounts when I was setting them Up.
One thing is - i do have a lot of strangers on my account (Cos play games leh) So ... I was also worried about that.
But having thought through it - i figure .. you can't protect them forever.
I have already told them before they should never add people they don't know and also shared with them about safety on internet before we started all this..
So... hopefully that keeps them safe!

i suck at the facebook privacy thing - i've heard of the settings but i've no idea how to go about it! i'm such a techno idiot...
and i realise i keep having "friends" whom i've no idea who they are, nor do i remember confirming them. so i've no idea how they got on my friends list...
