I've got a query, can people with oily skin and acne problems use moisturisers? And how do i reduce the sizes of the pores?
I've had medium acne severity during my NS, no thanks to camou cream and its high content of vegetable oil. While the acne problem is pretty much reduced now, I do get the occasional zits and clogged pores/comedones which are very annoying.
Anyway, something to share with you guys ^^
I heeded the advice given by a friend of mine who has really clear skin. She swears by it and so I thought, no harm trying.
I experimented with making a facial mask using 3 parts baking soda and 1 part water. Works like magic!! I've had fewer outbreaks and the exfoilating nature of the baking soda actually reduces acne scars, smooths out the skin.
Word of precaution though, not suitable for people with dry and sensitive skin. Results vary with different people. Google it up, from the feedbacks on the internet, seems pretty effective and cheap too!
You still have to use moisturizers but you need to use water based ones
Coz of your skin is not hydrated, it will get oiler
Thanks elindra for the quick reply
I was wondering if nivea men do carry water/gel based moisturizers, cos I can't really tell the difference! Or do you have any good and cheap products to recommend? I'm a student, can't really afford high end skin care products ><

I think they do. Not really sure
Just read the ingredients.
It should not contain things like mineral oil and should say non-comedogenic.
oh okay, once again thanks!
non-comedogenic sounds like something you smear on a comedian and he disintegrates
baking soda on face?! o.O
look out for products that oil-free but double check the list of ingriedents.
am using kiehls blue herbal range - they're pretty good. and they're generous with samples - get hold of a few and see if it works for you.
hey regarding the pores blocked or got oil or dirt stuck in ur pores...
i usually squeeze them out then the dirt or oil which is usually yellowish in colour will come out like squeezing toothpaste...
but it is painful.. so i am using the Gatsby brand facial cleansing... got blue colour or black de.. i use black de... think black is the deep cleansing thing... then when i use it.. the dirt or wat in my pores are cleaned effectively... summore got that mint feeling on ur face after wash... quite nice.. also it is around five dollar plus.. and each bottle can use like at least 1 month...
can be bought at watson, guardian or maybe NTUC fairprice.

Permanent solution to pore size - laser OR acid peel. A few ppl I know say that their pores become smaller, acne scars reduced & they get much less acne outbreak too.
A good, cheaper & not-so-permanent solution-Loreal's pore tightening & clarifying toner. Dries out imperfections, tightens pores, & exfoliates your skin too . Cheaper to buy at those discounted toiletry stores.
Nivea does offer water based moisturiser(nice & refreshing!), but I'm not sure if it's found in the men's range. Anyway, u can still use the main line (presumably for women only).
Oh ya, & dont forget sunblock! With our tropical climate, it's impt to protect the skin from UVA & UVB rays (which causes photo-ageing amongst other things). No point cleaning & exfoliating the skin only to present it to be fried!!
Good luck!
Thanks for all the advices! Appreciate it
oh.. about sunblock? don't go overboard...
the success of the "slip, slop, slap" in Australia to combat skin cancer due to high UV from the lack of ozone has resulted in a terrible side effect.. osteoporosis...
you need some sun for your skin to manufacture Vitamin D.. which is essential for your bones to absorb the calcium you ingest...
