Your very first job?
Since most of us here are older and "wiser", just reflecting on our youth. :P
What did you do? What made you do it? How much were you paid? Did you like it?
While awaiting "O" level results, my classmate roped me into becoming a sales promoter with YangTzeKiang, promoting their 7 brands. We were hoping to work together but no such luck. My friend was posted at the Galeries Lafayette (my age is showing lol) and I was sent to their Peninsula Plaza shop. Lucky me! This was when I discovered all that good food at the nearby hawker centres. lol. I can't remember what we were paid but it was very small. Something like $600 a month, I think. I did this for 3 months. Good thing it wasn't any longer than that. The job was boring!

is an internship at a bank counted as a job? i did get paid mthly though. LOL. well if that's not counted, i carried on working for them after my internship for about 2 mths. i was paid roughly $3000 gross, and of course i loved the job!
it involved nothing more than clicking around the computer, processing reports that can be easily done with just one click.. LOL.
huh. too long ago.
and too many jobs since.
hmmm. why notch i tell u abt a similar 3 mths outdoor sales job
i think it was about selling those CNY cards and mini transistor radios.
we had to prey on unsuspecting aunties and uncles to get em to buy them off us.
It was a pretty good learning experience, i must say. cos it teaches u that to make one single sale, u probably have to tackle around 10 ppl... pay is peanuts. cant remember whether there was a basic... but it pays per item u sell i think...
I was a bellhop at Paramount Hotel after my O Levels.
My pay was $4/hour. It wasn't all that difficult.... bring luggage up to the guests' rooms, give wake-up calls, call for taxis, etc, etc.....
I worked there for just one month. Went into JC in January.
i flipped burgers at a Burger King for a month and something.. vacation job when i was at school...
Promoter at Best Denki selling Saeco Espresso Machines..
Good job..
Basic was 900 dollars but the commission was woot..
Which means every week i sell 2 machines, i take home can 2k plus...
Not alot but every week sell 2? Slackest job every..
But not always can sell tho.... Each machines goes from thousands...
Worst part. Everytime got (not bashing but truth), Indians and China nationals coming over to get coffees from me... Machiato, Restretto bla bla bla, cant they just do it black?
Once, an indian man wearing suit came over and coffee talk me... I thought he was real interested. I made him 2 cuppas.
He said he would come over, and he sweared upon that...
He did, and brought his family along + friends.. Around 8 of them..
All requested a cup of coffee each, all with variations and left after that..

Piangz!
At my previous job, I was introduced to Iraqis. Many of them live in my corner of the world. OMG, when it comes to purchasing stuff, they are terrible (not bashing, just fact) . Not only will they haggle to the nth degree but they bring their entire family with them! This one man, brought his mother, sister and wife, 15 minutes before closing time. He tried to haggle but I was on to him. Every step of the way, he kept asking for discount after discount after discount. I was gracious and kept saying, sorry. Just as I was ringing up the transaction, he said, how about giving me your employee discount? I told him that if I did, it would be my last day on the job. To which he replied, "I don't care as long as I get a better discount". !!!!!!
15 yo , expo sales? ^ ^ 5.50/h . approx 1mth x.x
Did sales for a bit. Doing sales tells me that a lot of people really have no self restrain in buying things. I'm pretty convinced half the people I made the sales to didn't need it and probably never used it much...
okay.. i'm still stunned by Galleries Lafayette...
it's around the same time as Singapore Shui Hing...
and Yaohan at Plaza Singapura...
suddenly, i feel more decrepit than i already am

not related to jobs but I did notice that they like to ask freebies from people .....
I've had those fellows come up to me, more than once, smartly dressed and all that, asking for change to make up their train fares, asking for free cigarettes, and then another one for their friend, etc ...

My hands were tied and I had to bite my tongue. This is America after all, and our favourite word is "sue".
Side note: when one of my co-workers had to deal with what he perceived to be an irate customer, he actually asked the customer to step outside!!! He got fired and we rejoiced. He was the resident wicked wizard. lol
Say, is there such a thing as standard minimum hourly wage in Sg?

That's the problem
And they wonder why ppl dun like them
I think they are worst than the Jews when it comes penny pinching
Btw my boss tells me the Russians are equally horrible if not worst. LOL
Coz my boss rents out a lot of property in London
He said the WORST experiences he had was with
Indians
Russians
Arabs
Doesn't matter how rich they are. Their habits are horrible and they destroy your stuff and their level of hygiene is unbelivable.
And the thing is that they can take advantage of you but they will not allow you to 'take advantage' of them even though it's your rightful claim.

nope, no minimum wage in sg
I've only dealty with one Russian couple and they were very reticent and kept asking for discounts like it was going out of style. Why can't people understand that they are not entitled to anything that isn't coming to them? No coupon, no discount. No cause for discount = no discount. Smile at me politely = no discount. Ask me for discount = no discount. hahah
