What the ........
I'd have posted this under the weird and insane news thread ... but I think this deserves a thread of it's own .... since some of us may see that looming in our future ..... !!!
Parents take tuition to keep up with kid's homework ....
IT'S not just the students who need extra coaching when it comes to their schoolwork.
Indeed, homework is getting so tough now that parents themselves are signing up for workshops and classes to learn how to better coach their children, reported Lianhe Wanbao.
Parents who tutor their own primary school kids are increasingly stumped by the level of difficulty in the homework dished out to their children.
WTF?!
so instead of reviewing the standard of primary sch education, they forcing parents to go thru primary sch too??!!!
and yet they down the standard of chinese so much, kids dun even SEE a chinese character until dunnoe pri wat... THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!!
next thing we'll find ourselves can't even coach our kids unless we have a double PhD or something issit?
wah...
primary school is indeed tough nowadays...
Even for A level physics... imagine they brought semiconductor physics down to A levels...
Met my lady friend last week, she said very sadly: " i cant go holiday..."
I asked..."it's school holiday, ..izzit finanical? husband not free?"
she said : "nope, cannot skip daughter tutions, they are important..!.."
I asked : "alamak, give her a break, let her rest, schoolday already so tough... where she study now?"
my friend replied " NURSERY only lah !"
I am speechless........

same sentiments...
Balance of parents and play time is important for a kid..
Childhood affects everybody's thoughts and development when they grow older.. once they reached adulthood, if they looked back at the kids playing happily, some may felt the loss of their childhood happiness and closeness to parents and eventually blame their parents. This is my opinion.
I talked to some kids before, they dun even know their parents well.
They only know about that they must do homework, learn everything, they almost breakdown and crying out cos they cannot spell those words properly.. and this haunted them daily... they go to sleep and still thinking ...tomorrow how...
well, I think tuition is an unavoidable part of youth in singapore liao ....
at least we are not as bad as japan or south korea where they have those intensive cram schools ... though now with this parents thingy, I'm not sure we're still far off ....
but hey ! ... it's hands on parenting, neh ? ...
little fatums and fatumnettes will definitely have tuition and enrichment classes in their future ... it's just a matter of how much or how little ...
but damm if I'm gonna relive primary and secondary school again through my kids ...

cos some parents think that being able to recite ABC and do 2 + 4 before everyone else is a headstart in life ? ...
well ... at least you can't accuse those parents of being un-involved and apathetic .... it's better than those who have their kids brought up by maids I suppose ...

Pity is parents don't want to learn A level stuff to teach their kids

Tuition is getting very hot and rampant; like bubble tea last time.
Only difference is... there's definite tangible results... but then... tuition is not going to be there forever, so it's quite jialat if students rely it all the way... they will die in uni or in life if they continue their dependencies...
That's why I also coach students, especially at A levels, on my methods of studying and preparing... More on the skills on how to score than hard methods on the subject matter itself...

i always rem this kid back when i was in pri 1. he is a quiet boy in the same class as my elder bro (1 yr older)... cos he looks so pathetic, my bro pulls him to have recess with us everyday... and at pri 2, he doesn't know wat is superman or mickey mouse (my era de cartoons lah)... cos all his dad allows him to watch is news and documentaries...
once he went home and turn on tv for cartoons after keep hearing us talk abt them.... he got a caning from his dad when he came home, and goes to sch the next day with all the cane marks all over his body...
after awhile, he no longer appears in sch... my mum went to ask ard (other mothers).. and found out that the kid went crazy liao... yes at PRI 2 cos of all the pressure his dad puts on him so tat he may excel and get a headstart over other kids... well he lost his son forever, the kid went siao and couldn't recognize any one anymore...

sometimes i wonder if we should get the ministar of MOE and torture him to death? or the parents ought to be slapped repeatedly?
the people who tuition their children to death are just giving them a lot of paper qualifications and depriving their children of the street-smarts which will actually help them lead a balanced and happy life..
I was talking to MPB about this last night
Told him how ridiculas this is
And it's kinda scary that parents dunno how to do Primary School Stuff :x
maybe i am wrong,
so far i see, the parents who pushes their kids further than they can cope, the parents are not as high educated and do not understand the system. So they push their children to attend every subjects every tution, so they dun miss out anything, just in case..

that's why my unc/aunt moved to melbourne...so my couz could have a "decent" childhood
i feel they should get older kids who have the experience to teach the younger ones
the age gap for parents to child is too much.
