I'm honestly quite sick and tired of people who keep pointing to Bill Gates/Steve Jobs as proof of why a good education is not a prerequisite to success.....
They're the exceptions, not the norm. For every BIll Gates there are a few hundred Tan Ah Kows who don't make it at all....

National Service gave me a chance to laugh at those who sign-on-ed on whims.Many kept complaining, and then kept looking for ways to escape.
The ones I really admire were those who took their future into their hands. Like my BMT instructor, a regular 3SG from poly. He took his pay-out, threw it into a business which is flourishing now, and now he's just waiting for his contract with SAF to end. And he likes the chiong-sua life too, so its a double bonus for him.

The thing is that for people like Bill Gates, people tend to forget the amount of work he actually did, holed up in a garage trying to figure out Windows.
They did not sit in front of the PC typing in SGF saying that if they can do it, why can't they without paper qualifications.
Gates actually put in hard work for his success today. The only thing those losers will get is shit at the end of the day, granted at how they do things
