  Vignettes in Time: Singapore Maps and History through the Centuries
  Date: 5 September 2009 (Sat)
  Time: 2.30pm (Guided Tour starts at 3pm) 
  Location: Level 10 Lee Kong Chian Reference Library in National Library Building 

  This exhibition depicts Singapore as seen through cartographers, geologists, mariners, military generals and town planners. Beginning with the arrival of the British and merchants from the nascent East India Company, to military strategists of Imperial Japan and postwar city planners, "Vignettes in Time" provides snippets of little-known histories. Displayed for the first time are many maps from the collections fo the National Library Singapore and Mr Lim Shao Bin. With over 130 maps on display, this is the single largest showcase of maps in Singapore. Come explore a little-known Singapore through vignettes of the past. This exhibition is curated by Mr Lim Chen Sian. "Vignettes in Time" is jointly organised by National Library Singapore and the Singapore Heritage Society.
  
  English Tours (3pm - 4pm) will be conducted on Saturdays, 5, 19 & 26 September and 31 October. Chinese Tours (3pm - 4pm) will be conducted on Saturdays, 12 September and 3 & 24 October. Special Curator's Tour in English (3pm - 4pm) will be on Saturday, 10 October. Due to limited spaces, registration is required for all guided tours.

  After which we can walk around and mosey over to Suntec City to eat at Cafeteria il Lido @ Basement 1 Suntec City Mall.

  Nothing there is over $14.00 except for wines.

  Cabonara is $ 5.90
  Bolognese is also $5.90
  4 Cheese Pizza is $10.90
  Meat Lover Pizza is $10.90
  Tuscan Prawn Frittata $9.90
  Garlic Prawns $ 12.50
  Tiramisu $7.90 etc etc etc

  From what I know go for their pastas and pizza. Don't go for the fried chicken and pork chops.

  Soooooo who is game for this outing??

  We are attending both the exhibition and dinner. I will be late for the exhibition because my class ends at 3pm (supposedly) unless my class is cancelled (highly likely, 3/5 weeks already cancelled)

  Tonight, I had dinner at cafeteria il lido .. 

  It wasn't good ..

  First when we got there, this waiter told us, there is a special pasta of the day which is not listed in the menu .. and its bla bla bla ..

  we ordered our food ..

  i had a 4 cheese pizza (timbre's 4 cheese pizza is WAY better)

  Others had Roast beef, chicken, pork dishes .. they were alright. The roast beef was raw at some places..

  Ferret had the creamy salmon pasta .. according to her, the pasta looked like a "level 5 dish" .. it tasted alright .. the portion is relatively big but the salmon is not fresh ..

  After our food, which we thought it was mediocre, the waiter asked us if we would like desserts. When we said we didn't want any, 1 minute later, the bill was thrown on our table.

  Fine.. so we paid .. I said UOB card got 15% discount .. so ah gui used the UOB card. AFter that, the bill came, then he signed .. after that then i rememberd to check if the discount was given. It wasn't. So I asked the waiter.

  The waiter said "not applicable on fridays" but i told him to check, coz i saw it on today's TODAY. He took the card. went to check. came back to say they will need to reverse the 15% discount out. so we waited ..

  After a really long time, I asked that same waiter where is the bill? the waiter said repeatedly, that the bill is coming. It took so long because they need to do the reversing and we should have told them about the discount BEFORE we got the bill

  We were really pissed by then .. as if its our fault for not telling them that there should be a discount!!

  so, pls, if u all want to go and try .. just remember the food is quite mediocre .. u probably get more satisfaction going to Astons ..

  the staff kept repeating it's our fault for not telling them abt the uob promo..

  tat's wat pisses me off..

  staff not clear abt card promo??? new staffs?

  Somemore reversing only takes like 5 mins the most... Even if line too busy, retry also no need long ah...

  Thought of going for the carborana but now I think 5 sept i do spring cleaning at home le -___-
