Ok something for the New Year :P

Bookmarked.
speaking of diplomatic immunity, yeah pity the family and victim.
There shouldn't even be such a thing in the first place. It means they can commit murder and what not and get away with it......

Accident victim of Bukit Panjang hit-and-run accident cremated today; SPF still “investigating” the case

Mr Tong Kok Wai, the victim of a hit and run accident in the early hours of 15 December 2009 at Bukit Panjang, was cremated today. He was sent off by about 40 relatives and friends at the Mandai crematorium.
His newly-wed wife of only one month Madam Yenni Young cried all the way from the wake to the crematorium. Mr Tong’s mother said she hope the police will catch the driver who did this to her son.
30 year old Mr Tong, a Malaysian and Singapore PR, was crossing a road with his friend, Mr Bong Hwee Haw, 24, when they were struck by a black Audi A6.
The car ploughed into another victim, 18-year-old Muhamad Haris Abu Talib, about 100m down the road.
Mr Tong suffered severe brain damage from the accident and was declared brain dead by NUH doctors. His wife made the fateful decision to take him off life support at 2pm on Christmas Day. Mr Tong’s family agreed to donate his organs.
The car was traced back to the Romanian Embassy. It was reported to be stolen at the time of the accident by Dr Silviu Ionescu, the embassy’s charge d’affaires.
According to the state media, Dr Ionescu is currently overseas while the car’s regular driver is still in Singapore.
For some strange reason, the usually efficient Singapore Police are still investigating the case after two weeks and no arrests have been made.
Due to the intense public interest in this case, the Singapore Police has to be more forthcoming with their information and updates on it instead of the customary reply – “investigations are still ongoing.”

Well since the Car belongs to a romanian embassy, it's better to be sure then start pointing fingers... even seems like SPF investigators also facing alot of pressure from the top, not just the public...
Hope justice can be done to the victim and his family...
Whoever did it must be very well-connected & highly placed
If it was some common thief, their face would already be splashed all over the papers

Actually I suspect they are just under-pressure not to reveal anything unless it's 100% confirmed. In fact they may be just told not to say anything, afterall it might just be the ambassador himself or worse some minister/royalty

This isn't really a big case lah. killer car accident is actually quite small, it's only the car involved that make it headache.
If we were in some other country people would be calling for boycotts left, right and centre and burning flags, but we don't have any significant Romanian imports, do we?

btw, were the victims jaywalking? I didn't read the news articles.

the only thing that comes to mind when Romania is mentioned is that trainwreck of an episode of No Reservations with Zamir.

But it's a hit-and-run case, and the 3 victims were hit in separate incidents. That is downright serious.
afternoon
ok it's from Zaobao also. The car was found abandoned at Sungei Kadut and was found 2 hrs after the hit and run incident.
Apparently that diplomat was seen in e pic of the abandoning site with head injuries.
Yeap, ZB highlighted even so, diplomats are immune from prosecution
and yeap
tis incident is hardly highlighted on PAP Times alrdy. It's only chinese press tat reports it

It seems that chinese characters allow you to squeeze in more information than phonetic script...
dunno la
your know this is only reported on chinese press as well - Singaporeans go JB and kpkb to MCA saying why must restrict petrol purchase in JB?
They alrdy have problem subsidising petrol for their own ppl in future, and anyway what right do they have to go look for MCA?
SC related ppl?

it's sad
when subsidy becomes a right
hoh hoh hoh. now as price increases and rumour of govt scrapping sugar subdisdy, Malaysia no sugar on e market riao. Think got ppl hoarding
Think NTUC must read. By keeping prices low instead of gradually increase prices, this is wat happens. It can just happen to us

I don't think it's a "big case" in police terms.
My feel is big cases are things like robbery, serial murders, mas selamat escaping and such.
Diplomatic immunity is a pain in the behind. Anyway I don't think boycotting the romanian imports is the way to go. Although pressure should be put on the Romanian govt. to revoke the immunity. And also if possible to reviewing giving of these diplomatic immunity.
