  My parents always support the local movies and they will come back and tell me that he portrays heartlanders pretty accurately.

  For me, I never enjoyed his movies because there is a disconnect and there is too much usage of hokkien.

  Just out of curiousity, is he portraying the heartlanders accurately?

  The fish forums I go to have what I call "Typical Singaporean Chinese Men"

  If I frequent that forum before getting married, I would not have gotten married at all.

  KNS all have kids and wife and basically they have a thread that says they feel and can identify with Jack Neo because most of them have mistresses or flings outside.

  And they were going on and on about their conquests and how young girls like older men.

  It's really quite a disgusting read

  A more sinister view would be that it would be in their interest to protect Neo since his movies are largely in sync with their tune. heck even the $$ no enough snipes at the education policy was so tame.

  I think they didn't expect another 9 more mistresses.

  The first 20 years of my life was spent living on private property.

  Also my family does not celebrate any of the simi Qing Ming and what not Chinese festivals so I have a total disconnect there.

  I may live in a HDB flat now but I do not talk to my neighbours and my neighbourhood is pretty much filled with relatively young working adults with small children, and not the typical HDB neighbourhood.

  I'm totally disconnected from the so-called heartland too. And I stopped watching local TV when cable became available. 90% of the movies and dramas I watch are from the US.

  fatumnette asked me about this last night ....... asked me if I'd tau jiak outside .....

  I said ...... definitely ........ I'd go outside to tau jiak pork knuckles, satay with fats, kambing soup, sup tulang, bak chor mee with extra pork lard .........

  But MPB is not what you call the typical Singaporean Chinese Guy

  I told my mum before that no way will you ever find me marrying a typical Singaporean Chinese Guy ... the true heartlander type because we cannot connect with each other and most likely I will end up quarreling lots with my mother-in-law.

  I may be nice most of the time but there are certain 'nonsense' or things I will not tolerate.

  I think being a heartlander is a state of mind ...... and it doesn't have anything to do with one's pop culture preferences or certain religious practices .....

  I remember the very next day after I came back .... I went for a walk at the zheng hua town centre .... the kopitiams, the wet markets, the fruit stalls, the provision shops, the people ..... I felt I've come .... home.

  Not all. Just that sad to say I find this to be extremely true based on what I see and hear of the Typical Singaporean Heartlander Type Chinese Men.

  And for crying out loud... it was a fish forum....not even sammyboy forum

  And the way the men there talk about women is really damn disgusting.

  I would say 95% of the members in that forum are men, and the worst thing is how they try to justify that it is right for them to go around farking behind their wife back and they will tell you proudly how they pull wool over their spouses eyes too

  ladies are suspiscious creature too. They want you to be honest but cannot take the truth...

  Many years ago when I left the stat board, I HAD to bring some clients to a karaoke. I honesty told her where I was, Who was ith me, ladies hostess beside us etc....... All that she wanted to know....and she ignored me for the next 1 week after that.

  being 100% honest with women is asking for trouble. sometimes its better to leave out certain details.
