sashimi, go to Sakuraya...
you get to pick out your own piece where they will then slice up and serve to you
does it mean that they pick the dollar note from your wallet too.....?

You think cheaper is better?
i recommend you one place... you will sure like it.
its called Hokkaido japanese restaurant... you can type this in google and then go to its website.
Its buffet style, and you can have sushi, those udon, rice, wraps, chawamushi etc etc etc and they all taste damn fucking nice, esp chawamushi with cheese. The garlic fried rice is nice, but i cannot comment on the sushi because i am not a sushi lover, but my friends love their sushi to the max.
For sashimi lovers, this is the heaven for you. Their sashimi slices are thick and fresh. Very very fresh and its FREE FLOW!!!!!!!! You can order as much as you want, and the quantity is HUGE and quality is AWESOME!!! I never bluff you, my friends that eat sashimi all say damn nice, much better than sashimi from other places.
The only downside is that its quite expensive ~$40, and its located at Turf City, Bukit Timah.
You should go try if you really like sushi and Sashimi.

it ain't cheap.. you asked for good sashimi, i told you
a block which will come to about 10 slices of swordfish will set you back about $14
a small block of fatty bluefin tuna of the same size will set you back about $55

nope.. that's only if you choose bluefin..
my girlfriend and i go to Sakuraya regularly.. we just order some sashimi, maybe rice sets or handrolls, miso soup and some other side dishes like fried flatfish, fried cod.. bill averages around $65 for us...
we don't order bluefin.. but hey.. they have that stuff which says a lot for the place...
they also have more exotic fare like turban shell, filefish, giant cockle, geoduck..
there is this old remote Japanese resturant near Siglap. Nearer to frankle side.
from the outside resturant you won't notice but look at menu and portion open your eyes
I only go to Akashi for my fix of japanese food, no more sushi tei or sakae or what.
Normally, special cuts are never mentioned in the menu, always ask the server to recommend. Don't be shy to ask the prices too, they will tell you, because they have to.
You would scream if I told you the prices. But I can verify that the bear is right. Because at akashi, the average price for 1 slice of otoro tuna belly hovers at 15 bucks a slice. Min order is 5 slices.
Usually I would go for tai, and salmon belly, because I find the rest of the items too generic.
no need to go up to 300 bucks per person one la.... go to the hokkaido restaurant i recommended... got sashimi salmon, swordfish, tuna etc... all free flow and top notch quality.

I’m not being cynical here but I think different people have different taste and expectations (age group plays a part to)
Some people I know think that Sakae is a top notch sushi place and Pariss serve good food.
No matter how good a buffet is, they have to make money and looking at the price, I think there will definitely be a difference in quality.
I know that price usually doesn’t mean that the quality is better, but in this case whereby it’s sashimi, price does matter.
Maybe it’s better if you define what are the “other places” for sashimi for us to have a better idea and make a judgment call on the quality
