It's a baby sea turtle ! ....
fatumnette and I were taking a midnight stroll around east coast park when we spotted this critter crawling along the pavement .....
it's obviously lost it's bearings ...... I suspect that this hatchling lost it's way to the sea and started crawling towards the lamp post lights instead of out to sea ......
we took a few quick snaps, said a prayer for this critter to grow up strong and multiply .... and then gently released it back into the sea .....
it swam away in the right direction this time ...
wah
heng the hatchling got meet u two.
we were afraid that there might be others around .... this one's so tiny, we think it's a new hatchling ....
but we spent some time looking along the beach but couldn't find any others ..... hopefully, it was just a disoriented stray .......
I have never seen one in sg east coast park before. But for thousands of hatchings only a few survive. Once they hatch from their eggs the way to the sea many predators on land and in the air are always waiting to ffed on them. Those that survive swam to sea are in turn prey for larger sea creatures and predators from the sky again. I wonder this lone hatching will servive alone at sea.
cool stuff!
hope he finds a nice seaweed raft and grow up strong
this is really really cutee... hope hope she will grow up and come back lay more eggs :D
sooo cute~~
Crawl turtle crawl~
Call the police or NPark.
They will search for the remaining baby turtle and release
them into the sea.

does it taste good?
Very cute
Baby turtles always cute
U did a good deed! =D

I doubt turtles choose the island of singapore to lay their eggs at our shores. Maybe some of our nearby neighbouring countries have. Maybe brought here by other people, or this fellow just hatched and swamed or was washed by the tides here. But if east coast park's the new place for turtles next time i go check them out.
it is possible this turtle was hatched on the beach .....
east coast park may see hordes of people on the weekends, but on weekdays the beaches are practically deserted ....
and hatchlings would instinctively know to head out to the ocean ..... so it's unlikely this one was hatched elsewhere, got washed here and climbed up to the shore ...
but then again, I'm not sure if publicity would be a good thing ... east coast beach is a very public beach after all ... if word gets out, maybe we'll see hordes of poachers waiting with pails around the beach ?

it'll be good publicity.. imagine.. poachers and the greenies in a fistfight.. drawing the media.. and the police..
and all this may add to the increasing awareness of environmental issues

in a sense, I got this vision of massive ammount of PRCs by the seaside trying to poach them...

good also.. there'll be big fistfight and lots of things happening..
talking about PRCs and their obsessive need to eat endangered species, someone needs to go eat a panda...

Then will also depend on spots. They come ashore during midnight high tide to lay the eggs above the highest sea water level. Maybe secluded spots on other sides of the beaches not accessible to the public. need to see any spots during high tide but still full of sand for the egss to be hidden by the mother turtle. its good as it can draw tourists and visitors to see the action but for poaching it will be difficult to control no doubt. tutles are intelligent too when it comes to laying of eggs. our beaches may be too small to ensure survival of the hatchings from the eggs.
*imagines the turtle being let loose just to be eaten by a turtle eating fish*
lol

*smacks .....
I've thought of that too ......
but what comes from the sea .... belongs to the sea ....
better than to condemn it to a life time at the tiny turtle pond at the underwater world neh ......
so we took it back to the sea ....

Took it back to sea.. to live another few seconds... sniff sniff...
I know what u mean. ;p
The turtles will remember what u have done for thier kind. And it will not be forgotten.
Its part of nature, life cycle. letting it back into the sea is the best option. Like i wrote usually the mothers go ashore in groups to lay eggs. its they way so that the thousand of hatchings can have higher chances of survival in numbers when they make their way to sea. the numbers which make their way to sea can also have safety in numbers from the sea predators. the ones that survive will grow and mate and reproduce again.
it also not worng if you see a prey caught in a spider's web and refuses to save it. Its nature, their world and part of the life cylce of inhabitants of this planet.

tell it.. to the torn pieces of the poor baby turtle...

k k .. anyways, lets just pray hope that the turtle lives a full life n return to lay more eggs !
