Sunday paper published the Singapore NUS Researcher who came up with Frankenfish...
Have you read this topics? Singapore govt food regulation are not as strict as compare to the US. Even current Salmon that are colour added in fish feed are not reflected in gorcery chain not to mention wet market.
Below reflect the same age of fish but the size are much different. It is still unclear the impact of human consumption of GM Salmon.
I am not sure what kind of TEST requirement on the foodcokinetics and foodcodynamics by consuming the GM Food if any?
I wonder few years down the road Singaporean Basketball player would be Tall enough to play NBA?
OMG never seen salmon that fat! I know there is GM chicken where their drumsticks are humongous, but that salmon is ridiculous!
Supposedly this fish will be kept in Tank and are breed as Sterlized Female so that they do not spawn and swim back into the ocean and contaminate the wild salmon.
But some Fishes are known to be able to change its SEX. The process of reverting between sex is call simultaneous hermaphroditism.
That reminded me of the movie Jurasic Park where Dino were bred in captivity and all Female to ensure it cannot reproduce itself.
But Life find its path either....At some point some idiot for profit sake will release and breed with wild salmon.....Or it get release into the wild nobody can tell the different between a GM salmon and a regular salmon.
NOW I know the movie Jurasic Park was not referring to Dino but our Food Chain....
In that case someone should paste the story about the origins of killer bees on the tank as well as the lid of the tank.
Well, in Singapore we don’t have to label the food as GMO, BUT you cannot label something as Non-GMO if it is not.
So if in doubt, just buy food that is labeled Non-GMO or Wild Caught.
I don't know what is AVA stand on Salmon but I do know for sure for GM soybeans imported into Singapore, the importer have to declare the genetics of the GMO soybean. This is an additional requirement but the thing is, the consumers won't know.
well, GM foods....i think it is inevitable we will end up eating them 1 way or another...
might as well consume as much GM food while we still can...

Mebbe one day will have GM boobs then plastik surgery will be phased out
Most of the GM foods are plant based like soybeans, corn, canola, wheat etc etc
Salmon is relatively new, though we have all those hormone infused and antibiotic ladened animals like fish, chicken, pork, beef etc
one of the key aspect of GM food is introducing new protein into the food that you eat.....it may cause unusual Allergy.
I was just thinking in future if you eat GM Salmon you will also get your dose of Vitamin C and A ................... ha ha ha.....

Well, more like stuff you won't think of finding in Salmon like maybe traces of peanut genes which can trigger off a serious allergy reaction to people allergic to peanuts.
I can only say is that if the GM item carries genes from other plants/animals which are common allergy triggers, they should be clearly labelled
I hope one day we can farm mosquitoes the size of geese, then we can eat their innards.
