*me mysteriously appears in a puff of smoke*
In a recent test I invigilated, there was plenty of drama....
A few people didn't bring their matriculation cards even though they know by now how important it is to produce official ID on demand during tests.
For one of the students, the conversation I had with her went something like this:
Me: Your matric card, please.
Student: Sir, I didn't bring it.
Me: Okay.... your IC, driving licence, or student pass then.
Student: Sir, I didn't bring my purse. I live in a Hall.
Me (getting exasperated): Okay, which class are you in?
Student: Sir.... I forgot which class I'm in.
Me (about to blow my top): Okay.... who's your tutor?
Student: Uhh.... that would be you.
I facepalmed right there and then.

are you sure he's from your school?
As I pointed out to them, without valid official ID, they could have been thrown out of the exam hall if I (or my co-invigilator) had been feeling evil enough.
I still find it extremely difficult to grasp why anyone would go on campus without at least some form of official ID. Even if they had not brought their matric card, I would have thought that they would have still brought their IC/11B/driving licence/student pass....
I don't give a *toot* about whether they live on campus or not.... as I have just explained to my students, had there been a crime on campus, and the police decided to stop them for questioning....
...... they could have been held by the police until their identities were verified.

You should have thrown her out, because she could've been taking the exam for her friend. She should've run off to get her ID when you were reading out the instructions. Once the paper's turned over it's too late.

My co-invigilator (who was in overall command) decided against it, since we had class lists with their faces by the side of each name. The girl looked very much like the face that was in the class lists. Her name and matric number tallied as well.
That said, we threatened to eject anyone who didn't have any official ID the next time.

no it won't be... it is quite the norm now for students to never read what is not in the syllabus...
they will refuse to read any books or publications.. and worse, they take pride in it
