I mean yeah with children you can gain happiness (if they are good) if not they will be a major cause of unnecessary stress, heartaches, anger and not to mention a hole in the pocket
Seriously these days, if you list the pros & cons of having children, I think the cons list is really much higher than maybe the ego booster of creating another human being.
It’s like over CNY, my friend (with 3 kids) told me she really like my bag and asked me how much is it. I told her I got it at a really great price at $160 @ 50% off.
She was like … wah Hiroshima bags are so expensive. This was someone who don’t think twice about buying branded bags before -_-“
maybe you can think of parking your cub with your parents or MPB's ....
that's what we are planning to do cos both of us still intend to pursue our respective careers.
I know my folks would be very happy to perform the duty, and you can be assured that they are in the care of someone who loves them, and not just cos you pay them 1.5k a month .....
after that, it's kindergarden and primary school ... they don't charge 1.5k a month.

why would anyone want to go to a McShit when in another country?
actually, why the hell would anyone want to go to McShit unless they were depressed and wanted to torture themselves with simulated food that tastes like cardboard?

His mum's health is not good and she can barely speak English so she's out.
My mum is working so no way she can look after her grandchild
My dad is out too coz he will definately spoil the kid rotten
Adding to that my parents and his parents are living in Woodlands & Yishun respectively. The travelling time is crazy for us

Yeah.... if you're in a different country, you should be trying the local cuisine.
When I was in Istanbul, we always ate at the little mom-and-pop establishments in the side streets.
We quickly figured that the further away you were from the main roads and tourist areas, the cheaper and more authentic the food would be.

there are people who sling on a backpack and travel on a budget too ...... it's either that, or instant noodles at the YMCA .....unless it's some place in asia and you can gorge cheaply at some street corner stand ....

chances are, they'll never visit the place again and they've lost the chance to eat the real stuff there..
btw.. those who pack instant noodles are the same people who seek out "chinese food".. this is if they cannot find the "chinese food" where they travel

these people i know aren't..
they are some people i know in the office.. they hold higher ranks (and therefore much higher pay) and are not shy to splash out unreasonable amounts of money for idiotic things like "designer label pencil cases"

That's just wrong. IMO if you have kids, they're your responsibility , not someone else's. It's like getting a pet when you don't have the time to look after it.
Or maybe I'm still young and idealistic.

i think he's being realistic about it. When they do really have kids, they will really find comfort and peace in mind that their kids are in really good hands, not some maids or baby sitter. However, their parents must be a willing party rather then being shoved into their hands.

that, of course, would be the ideal situation .....
for a parent (usually the one with milk laden mammaries), to stay at home to look after the cub while the other one brings home the bacon .......
but try selling that idea now ... to DINK white collar couples ....
I wonder sometimes, how the less well off, blue collar folks in singapore manage with their kids ..... those that couldn't afford montessori kindergardens and thousand dollar a month infant care ......

As Fatum has said, in an ideal world, the mom stays at home, while pop goes out to bring home the bacon.
Unfortunately, the age of 'the woman's place is in the kitchen' is truly over, and now women go out to join the workforce and to bring home their own share of the family bacon.
Like it or not, asking a relative whom you know and trust to help watch the kids is a far lesser evil than, say, leaving your kids to a daycare center. Of course the key point here is that the said relative must be willing and able to do so, and to never fully abdicate your own responsibilities as a parent.
My uncle left my little cousin at my house for my mom to watch over from when she was six months old all the way till she was six years old. My mom was willing and able, and my uncle paid her for that. She grew up well and is becoming a fine young woman (18 this year) from what I can tell.
Heck, I myself was left in the care of an aunt back when both my parents were still working.
I believe I turned out just fine too, yeah?
I think there are infant care that is not that expensive and often you can enquire for subsidised rates.
Alternatively, many of my friends also use recommended nannies who live close by to provide support.
Thankfully my parents are happy to help look after Shrokitten when he/she comes! Though I have been considering the possibility of working part time in order to spend more time with the child during early childhood years :)

Hahahha that's what I tell my friends (and remind myself!) not to get too stressed up over the whole parenthood deal. Afterall despite whatever mistakes our parents made, most of us turned out reasonably NORMAL and FINE! :)
Thing is... look at those kids who grew up in Kampongs, who had lots of friends, not much adult supervision, a lot of freedom (in a reasonably secure environment) - I think in their own ways they learn to grow up to be a lot more resilient and independent. Sometimes too much attention also not good la!
