My younger sister was deadset on wanting a MacBook Air.
Looking at the specs, I had a tough time trying to convince her that you can get a netbook with similar specs for 1/3 the price.
Seriously, what's the deal with the MacBook Air? It looks sexy, and... that's about it.

Poor North Koreans... I won't be surprised if there's a revolution there.

i agree...... my princess got a imac for her studies only for me to buy another notebook coz some program don't run with mac

but then again ..... a lappie with an i7 wouldn't be a netbook already ....... you can probably do power rendering on adobe illustrator with that ......
I'm still thinking of it... It's a Toshiba netbook and the specs are the closest to a lappie's that I've ever seen! 2 (or was it 4) GB RAM too! It's only retailing for AUD$800+. And it's super portable!

the MacBook Air is insane.. it's light as all hell but there are other laptops as light now...
the only thing going for it is OSX which is still stable as all hell and not as prone to virus and all that...
i bought the iMac and the MBP because Vista was less than useless... but with Windoze7 these days, the replacement for the MBP would probably be a cheap laptop...
but that being said, this MBP will probably last a long long LONG time

I am not a Mac fan. It's amazing how many folks still go crazy for the iPhone 4 despite so many PC experts, PC mags, and even Science mags saying that Android is the way to go!
I hate iTunes and I really really regret getting my iPod. Apple is too proprietary. And I hate how they are boycotting Flash.

the answer is.. BOOT CAMP!!
turn your Mac into a Windoze machine!

Dell offers a similar, equally sexy lappie too - the Vostro.
Toshiba? That is one brand that I've long blacklisted.
My laptop was a Toshiba when I was an undergrad, and it would come up with some serious problem at least once a semester.
It its four year lifespan I've had to replace its CD ROM drive, its RAM chips, and had to send it for repairs several times.
My MSI netbook which I bought at the beginning of my graduate studies, on the other hand, has been going strong for 2 1/2 years with no problems.

yup...but then I got a new lappie at home and no more competition

and very filmsy ...... one knock and the thing goes kaput ........
one of my mates, a hard core apple fan (an ah sia, so he can afford it) ...... totalled his mac air just cos he knocked it against the side of his comp table taking out out of the bag .......
if she likes a mac's look and feel, she can download a skin from, say aquasoft or realdock ..... if she needs an ix platform she can look at linux or cygwin for windows .......
morning

Surprise... I can't get hold of the MSI model I want here. Unlike in Singapore, we aren't spoilt for choice here. I actually thought of making a quick short trip back home so I can purchase a decent netbook / lappie before my course commences but the SQ flights back to SG are all fully booked. Haiz...
iTunes is actually one of the best programs out there to organise your music, movies, podcasts and other things...
the iPhone4, while it has its detractors, and after they fixed the initial bugs, is still a pretty good block of wood.. but the price and the idiocy which Apple does to keep it sealed (including putting "flower" screws on the thing) pisses people off..
i refuse to pay a premium of about $200 or more for what a 'Droid can do and do well too..
besides, the iPhone will never look as cool as this:
i'd buy it in a flash if they have it here

FS was also interested in the MacBook Air.
So I went down to the NUS computer shop, got a flyer detailing all their Macs on sale, and showed her that the MacBook Pro would be much better in the long run.
That said, I'll stick to Windows, thanks....
My friend and I was totally wowed over by a Sony Vaio until we saw its pricetag - AUD 4000+!!!
But its graphics was the most stunning of the lot!
the Sony VAIO has probably the most stunning video display around..
my 1st generation VAIO had a default resolution screen of 1400x1050 on a 14 or 15 inch screen.. and i bought that thing in 2003
I like VAIO but it's super ex.

Go look at the youtube clip pitting the iPhone 4 against HTC Desire and HTC HD2. The iPhone 4 only won in one segment - booting up the quickest whilst being turned on. Other than that, the HTC Desire was the clear winner.
I soooo desire the HTC Desire! But the bloody phone plans here are outrageous! I'll just stick to a 'normal' minimalist phone. After all, I'm not generating million-dollar deals on the move so I don't really need a fancy-pancy phone... and an even fancier-pancier mobile phone bill!

the MBP is a better deal.. definitely...
and if you're not going to use it for intense stuff, maybe just the white MacBook would be enough...
i bought this MBP because it was discounted at the computer fair and after all the deductions and the souping up (free RAM), it was only $120 more than the white MacBook but running twice as fast...

i know.. while the iPhone is stuck, everything else moves on.. competition does that and new models = new hardware = more powerful stuff..
i think Motorola is putting a dual-core processor in their phone next
anyway, here in Singapore, you probably pay the same mobile phone cost whatever smartphone you get...
i was happy with my little HTC Magic but time has taken a toll on it.. it's slow as all hell now.. takes about 2 minutes to turn on.. lags like a $*&^#
waiting for the 2 years to be up

One of my juniors has an Alienware laptop which costs $5K but it's an amazing thing to do CAD renders with. Eventually though I think lower-end laptops will catch up.
