the devastation in Japan is very sad..
i hope the death toll doesn't increase but.... i hope it doesn't increase much...
It is really terrible
So many deaths in so many places worldwide from earthquakes
one of my jap friend is giving regular updates on fb ..... he's got no gas, and part of the subway is flooded, but fine.
I think the differences between societies is telling. In japan there's no looting, no widespread public disorder, and the death toll, considering the magnitude of the earthquake, surprisingly low. In china or pakistan or peru the death toll shoots up to the tens of thousands very quickly ..... in japan it's still in the hundreds ......
a very prepared and disciplined people, the nips ....

I agree with you. Such a disaster and the causalty compare to the scale is relatively very small. They show us how professional they are dealing with crisis like this.... Now I pray for the everyone who is living in japan for their safety....
To add if this happen in tokyo, i think the death toll might not be in thousands....but maybe in millions. Scary....

You could put that urge to good use by gifting me an Olympus PEN.

yeah. its their culture to try not to be knn lang.
in contrast, being knn lang is an integral part of sg culture. thank goodness we're relatively sheltered from natural disasters.
for the fans of StarCraft 2... here's...
From Mr Brown:
In other words:
'A tragedy has struck Japan! This is a great time for you to hawk your wares on our channel! Call our sales representatives now!'
Someone from Mediacorp's marketing department is asking for an ass kicking.....

That effectively demonstrates AV's assertion about KNN lang.
how about the one where Lau Lee's son personally pens a condolence to China over the earthquake there but is just part of the "Singapore Leaders sends condolences" to Japan...
pardon me PM but your slip is showing...
To be fair, MediaCorp did release an apology, but even that seems half-baked.
I refer you guys to Apology from MediaCorp.
I quote:
'.....We apologize unreservedly if we had been seen to be insensitive to the gravity of the situation.'
At the very least, that is poor grammar. At the very worst, they're not really sorry after all.
That's because the words 'if we had been seen' changes the whole meaning of the statement. I see it as:
'..... We're sorry if you see us as being insensitive to the tragedy.'
Why can't they just say, like,'What we did was wrong, and we're sorry for that'?

They'll never admit that they're wrong. The chances of getting a letter from Nigeria that is genuine are higher than that.

they learnt from WKS... "This should have never happened. I'm sorry that it has"
