oh.. remember this.. they had a post-tax profit of $161million...

seems like there was a big argument because TIBS lumped all their bad investments (in property and other insane things in other countries) in as "losses" into their balance sheet... so that the balance sheet reflected a loss...
the transport operations was profitable.. but they insisted on the loss... there was a face-off when the auditors didn't want to sign off the accounts...
eventually, some nonsense happened and the account was reported as a big loss for TIBS...
TIBS then took the loss to the PTC and they got a fare increase...
The PRC ops if my memory dun fail me
i think that year, SBS did the same thing and PTC allowed the fare increase

1). They're gonna say that everything was under control, their staff was really on the ball, the contradictory reports are unjustified, yada-yada.....
2). They're gonna claim that this goes to show that increased train fares are justified due to the need for increased maintenance....
3). They're gonna charge the fella who smashed the train window with vandalism.
regarding about point 3, recently I've seen a live-case...
Someone fainted in the train cabin so this guy went to press the button (beside the door for emergency de)... At the next stop, SMRT male staff came in, demanded to know what is happening (the guy already told the driver b4 so the driver should have convey the situation over to the station before hand so arrangement could be made in advance)...
Next this male staff confronted the guy who pressed the button, in a way machiam like u interogate a criminal suspect... I can assure u, the male staff is very, very agitated -___- and he didn't exactly try to help or understand the situation, more like trying to find the problem, bring the problem out of the train so the train can resume moving...
Not that his motive is wrong, but it's his way of handling matter is rather of no compassion and he could have handled the ground better...

MP asks SBS Transit to explain lost bus incident
By Lian Cheong | Posted: 15 December 2011 2335 hrSINGAPORE: The Deputy Chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee for Transport, Seng Han Thong has asked SBS Transit to explain how one of their bus drivers got lost.
In the incident, which occurred on November 3, service number 52 had strayed from its usual route to avoid a traffic congestion.
But it got lost and passengers ended up spending two hours on the bus.
Seng Han Thong, MP for Ang Mo Kio, deputy chairman, GPC for Transport, said: "What they need to enhance is the emergency preparedness.
"In turn of any emergency, how do you communicate, who do you communicate, what language can you communicate. (The) company has to review all (of) these."
On the recent taxi fare revisions, Mr Seng said the changes could have been better communicated to the public.
ComfortDelGro announced their fare revisions earlier this month.
SMRT made their own announcement shortly after.
Mr Seng said these companies should better explain their rationale for increasing taxi fares.
Mr Seng: "Of course, no one will like the price to be increased. The important point is, how can you be more transparent to let your customer know that the adjustment of this fare is to address the issues. So if a commuter can understand better, I'm sure the response will be different."

As I answered to your FB post, I find it outrageous our MPs don't want an explaination for the fatal accident at Bishan instead. The last thing we want is another double-deck to fly in our face and kill us on our way to makan.
Besides, its not the first time an SBST got lost to this extent. Years ago, another SBST bus ended up at Bukit Panjang when it shoud have been at Woodlands. Nobody asked for an explaination for that either.
Politicians are cuckoos.
And SMRT really can't get anything right. From the taxi, bus and train. Its seriously the management. It makes SBST look god-like when it isn't, though I would give that it has improved.

I asked him what he's view and plans for some problems... First thing he answered me was: "Is there a problem?"... And the problem is extremely extremely obvious, but it seems like he didn't think there was a problem...

They are real asses and I wanna bitch about the air-conditioning in the old trains again
Even when the trains are moving and during peak hours, the chance of you seeing someone faint is very very high
