What would it take to institute a Memorial Day for the servicemen who died in training and on duty, even if they've never fought a war?
PIE (Tuas) sees yet another RTA which is on lane 3 with congestion till Paya Lebar Rd..

never.. because if rumours are to be believed, the sons of mini-stars never do reservist, and those who do NS are put in cushy positions

people don't know how to drive curves + slippery roads = crashes waiting to happen

Well, there's a reason why they're called rumours., and I don't wan't to place too much stock on them.

neither do i.. but there is no smoke without fire.. and i've seen the "WH" marks on the medical records before too...
and they haven't been very forthright in their "explanations" about it either

Commanders.
Seriously, it's hard to fault the reservists for not being at tip-top condition. After all, this was the 7th ICT, and nobody is really at their prime by this time. Almost everyone is in their early 30s, married with kids, and knowing how to chiong is at the back of their minds.
The lack of medics is a serious issue. My senior medic has been complaining to the S1 branch for the past few years about the need to replace medically-downgraded medics with fighting-fit ones, but nothing was done about it.
In the end, at the ATEC AAR, the senior medic blew his top and exclaimed that safety had been severely compromised as a result.
After all, one less rifleman just simply means slightly less firepower for the exercise. But one less medic can lead to a life-or-death situation when one guy goes kaput and there's no one nearby to attend to him.

somehow, this problem hasn't gone away...
i was the downgraded medic but still placed in the orbat because they wanted the numbers... as long as i was there, even if i was in the medical centre while the rest of the battery was out at some god-forsaken place, the numbers showed "enough manpower"
until the other 2 combat-fit medic decided to keng their way through the ICT, no-showed exactly during the exercise by calling in MCs...
i told the BC that as long as they kept quiet about it, i go for the exercise with them to ensure no one died or whatever because of lack of a medic, the ICT would not be cancelled after a week of preparation..
we went off, the 2 other medics got to come back for the rest of the ICT (even made to report for the last saturday after the rest of us were out-processed on friday) and their 2 weeks was not tagged as a high-key ICT..
there were supposed to be more than just 3 medics for a battery... the BC was angry but HQ didn't supply any more and kept me in the orbat anyway...

That was exactly what we faced. We had a lot of downgraded medics who were still in the orbat.
Hell, one guy married a Scandinavian woman and moved to Norway years ago, and he was still in the freakin' orbat. WTF.
Problem is, we couldn't send them into battle. Sure, we made them do the safety cover duties, but in the end, we still needed frontline medics who could carry heavy loads and be the first on the scene when things go south.
But the manpower side just simply looked at the orbat, saw that we had a good complement of medics, and shut out all our arguments about how some of them were actually not fighting fit.

they should get a robot to be a medic!got bullet hole in chest....the handheld robot will attach itself to wounded soldier and plug wound and wrap person up....back n front.along with morphine injection fro medivac.alond g with tracking GPS signal embedded in military standard robot.
if leg is shot, robot will also do the same thing..plug it and inject morphine for medivac.
i would design and patent it but i think i give this to fudgster to do wits project!he will be sent to spore defence contractors after this.

I happened to pass by SLE towards Woodlands... And I saw a 'road bend' signage at the right lane near Mandai...
wth..
Head päeva.
gute morgen KB!
I understand why there's such a fuss about the new data caps for phones. There should be at least a price reduction.
I'm not so sure about the fuss over the girl who pasted stickers and spray painted on roads. Yes, it's good humour but it's against the law almost anywhere.
Morning...
Purchased 1 pack of 5kg ROC rice...

Agreed. With all this talk about creativity and all, people lose sight of the fact that it was against the law, period.
In my eyes the girl is just another Michael Fay, only with a more creative streak. If she had been male, I'd have demanded the rotan for the vandal.
By all means, express your creativity, but not at the expense of good manners like the seeking of approval from the relevant authorities. After all, the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel was painted only with permission.
And frankly speaking, people who are trying to defend the girl would certainly not be singing the same tune if the vandal had been, say, a PRC scholar at NUS.

Well, street art as it's called has always existed outside the boundaries of what's legal (until Banksy's work was put in galleries) and this is how it works. It wouldn't be the same if it was expressed in tamer ways because of how the graffiti artist/vandal chooses the site and the way the message interacts with the environment. It's very different from being given a wall in the mall or skate park and being told to decorate it there. The act of rebellion is missing
Having said that, there's a risk of getting caught and everyone knows and accepts this. Just because Banksy's work has been "legitimised" in galleries doesn't mean it's no longer a crime. Hypocrisy is at work when we claim that there are 2 different laws for locals and foreigners, or the rich and everyone else, and yet want her to go free.
However, I'd like to see the stickers remain until they wear off, because they humour and meaning to the urban landscape and make you think for a moment about our behaviours. The city of Bristol has left Banksy's graffiti as it is after all these years. That'll be the sign that the authorities have progressed in their views on creative expression.
wow...the morning just went by me. hopefully a less stressful afternoon
hey all ~
seems like it's gonna be another warm warm day..
i'd beat the hell out of anyone coming into my house and spray-painting unimaginative and unfunny crap on my walls...
erm like, my grandfather's house for example..
