1. That analogy is stupid, even if its logically sound. Using some common sense, I knew already that he was alluding to terrible consequences democracy can bring. Still in bad taste nonetheless.
2. The ones baying for his blood over the use of "gang-rape" are just over-sensitive. Or plain lacking in comprehension skills.
I get the point that it was an illustration about the limitations and drawbacks of democracy, but the analogy used was just terrible.
The beef that I have with him is the fact that he posted it without qualification. When you do that, basically you are signalling to others: 'Hey, I totally agree with this quote, and I don't see anything wrong with the analogy it uses.'
By posting it, it just goes to show that he was just cutting and pasting quotes without pondering over it properly. So instead of appearing smart, he has just made himself appear dumb.

I totally agree...
And he shld remember that as a public figure, he shld remember who is he... There are things which people have to sacrifice when they are public figures...

I totally agree with you too. The main beef I have is the "WITHOUT QUALIFICATION"

Kaoz..... I'm trying to file a simple claim for some equipment I bought for my experiments, and the financial office is giving me hell. They can't even give me a user-friendly webpage to do it.
It's almost as though they don't want me to claim my money or something.

I can agree that he was only quoting the fantasy fiction writer Terry Goodkind.
That said, it does not mean that he should quote it verbatim without any kind of qualification. Goodkind's choice of analogy was horrible to begin with and trivializes gang rape.
Gosh, would it be so hard for him to just stop and think 'Hmm..... could there be any problem with posting this quote on Facebook without any further commentary or qualification? Should I even post this quote?'
the true tenent of democracy is the respect of rights.. especially universal human rights...
the majority may hold sway unless it is the voting away of the rights of the minority which it cannot do..
here he shows his shallow comprehension of democracy and what he is like..
we cannot vote that we drag him out and torture him to death even if it is unanimous because it would not respect his right to life... and herein, his inability to comprehend that simple tenent of democracy is actually saving his life even as he is babbling incoherently against it..

btw...
There was this robbery in Guangzhou , the robber shouted to everyone: "All don't move, money belongs to the state, life belongs to you".
Everyone in the bank laid down quietly.
This is called "Mind Changing Concept --> Changing the conventional way of thinking".
-------------------------------------------------
One lady lay on the table provocatively, the robber shouted at her "Please be civilised! This is a robbery and not a rape!"
This is called "Being Professional --> Focus only on what you are trained to do!"
-------------------------------------------------
When the robbers got back, the younger robber (MBA trained) told the older robber (who is only primary school educated), "Big bro, let's count how much we got", the older robber rebutted and said, "You very stupid, so much money, how to count, tonight TV will tell us how much we robbed from the bank!"
This is called "Experience --> nowadays experience is more important than paper qualifications!"
-------------------------------------------------
After the robbers left, the bank manager told the bank supervisor to call the police quickly. The supervisor says "Wait, wait wait, let's put the 5 million RMB we embezzled into the amount the robbers robbed".
This is called "Swim with the tide --> converting an unfavorable situation to your advantage!"
-------------------------------------------------
The supervisor says "It will be good if there is a robbery every month".
This is called "Killing Boredom --> Happiness is most important."
-------------------------------------------------
The next day, TV news reported that 100 million RMB was taken from the bank. The robbers counted and counted and counted, but they could only count 20 million RMB. The robbers were very angry and complained "We risked our lives and only took 20 million RMB, the bank manager took 80 million RMB with a snap of his fingers. It looks like it is better to be educated to be a thief!"
This is called "Knowledge is worth as much as gold !"
-------------------------------------------------
The bank manager was smiling and happy because his loss in the CINOPEC shares are now covered by this robbery.
This is called "Seizing the opportunity --> daring to take risks!"
Dun anyhow quote people in sgforums.
only quote is "dem stressed"? can ar?
