Pool doubles as skylight for Bras Basah station

A NEW reflection pool sited between the Singapore Art Museum and Singapore Management University (SMU) is more than a water feature providing cool relief to passers-by.
The tennis court-sized pool is also a skylight for the Bras Basah MRT station, a five-level structure that goes 35m below ground - deeper than any MRT station here.
The skylight idea from local firm WoHa Architects allows the station to be used without artificial lighting in the day. At night, the lit station gives the open area in front of the SMU a surreal glow.
When sunlight streams through the glass roof, slanting side walls reflect it to deeper levels of the station.
Giving The Straits Times a tour of the station, the Land Transport Authority's Circle Line director Sim Wee Meng said the skylight will help make the commuting experience better.
'As soon as commuters come out of the train, they'd feel like they're already at the surface,' Mr Sim said.
The walls are clad in acoustic panels to minimise echoes, making the deep station less noisy.
The 70,000 litres of running water on the roof have more than an aesthetic role. The pool also helps to dissipate heat.
'If it was just plain glass without the water, it would get quite hot,' explained Mr Sim.
Being so deep, the station is served by 41.3m-long escalators - the longest in Singapore's rail network. Currently, the longest in operation are at Changi Airport MRT station, measuring 37.9m.
The Bras Basah station's expansive walls look bare now, but there are plans to project slide shows onto them.
There is still some work to be done before the station is completed. Electrical and signalling systems required to run the trains are being installed and testing of the systems is expected to commence in 2009.
The $6.7 billion 33.3km Circle Line is expected to open in stages from 2010. The first phase is likely to be a 5km stretch between Bartley and Marymount.
Although the city and eastern portions of the line are largely in advanced stages of completion, some stations - including the new Nicoll Highway and Dakota stations - are lagging behind.

Does anyone know what's going on at Serangoon station NEL side?
There's a new set of faregates but its opposite the Passenger Service Centre... Directly below this set of faregates on the NEL platform if a new staircase up... Supposedly this should be the link to CCL stn but then they built a staircase to connect rather than an escalator? -
Signs are up at Marmount stn again.

Marymount station exit (the one beside the shunfu flats), the canvas sheet covering the lift shaft has been removed. looks quite nice and modern. both station exits not quite ready yet though. Bishan station, the new circle line station exit at Bishan bus interchange is starting to take shape. i.e. the basic concrete structure is up.

Award Of Contract For CCL Marina Bay Station
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded the civil works contract (C901) for the Circle Line (CCL) Marina Bay Station to Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure Pte Ltd.
The contract is valued at S$348.4 million.
Scope of Contracts
Contract 901 is for the construction and completion of the CCL Marina Bay Station and tunnels. The scope also includes addition and alteration works to the existing North South Line (NSL) Marina Bay station, localised diversions of the East Coast Parkway and Marina Street as well as demolition of an expunged vehicular underpass.
About the Contractors
Hock Lian Seng Infrastructure Pte Ltd is currently undertaking the construction for the Extension of Bartley Road to Airport Road, and the bridge over Sungei Serangoon connecting Buangkok Drive to Tampines Road. They have also recently completed the construction of the Kim Chuan Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Depot.
Circle Line (CCL) Extension
When completed in 2012, the 2.4km CCL Extension will be a fully underground, automated rail transit system that will extend from CCL Promenade station via Downtown Line Stage 1 (DTL1) Bayfront station to the CCL Marina Bay station.
The Circle Line Marina Bay station is a new station on the Circle Line. It will serve as an interchange station connecting the Circle Line to the present North South Line. When completed, there will be an integrated entrance which will serve both the new Circle Line Marina Bay Station and the existing North South Line Marina Bay station.
Contract 830A
The LTA had earlier awarded Contract 830A, Electrical and Mechanical Systems for the Circle Line Extension, to the consortium of ALSTOM Transport S.A., ALSTOM Transport (S) Pte Ltd and Singapore Technologies Electronics Ltd on 27 December 2007. The contract is valued at approximately S$106 million.
Contract 830A covers the design, supply, delivery to site, installation, testing and commissioning of major Electrical and Mechanical Systems, such as Signalling System, Platform Screen Doors, Communications System, Integrated Supervisory Control System, Power Supply System (High Tension and Traction Power), Trackworks and Travel Information System.
The consortium of ALSTOM Transport S.A., ALSTOM Transport (S) Pte Ltd and Singapore Technologies Electronics Ltd is currently undertaking the construction of the Electrical and Mechanical Systems for the five stages of the Circle Line Project.

Serangoon CCL Entrance/Exit point's roof is completed. Electricial equipment has been installed already as all lamps in the entrance/exit point is lit up already.
And Mountbatten CCL MRT station underneath the road is now in progress being filled with roof concrete. It is one of the most slowest station construction in CCL Stage 2.
